The 2 books shown below (Batman Fortress HC & Batman Universe HC) both exist in core but I think they have some kind of error. When scanning the bar codes or cover art - which I was doing at Ollie’s - they do not show up as being in my collection, yet they are (see pictures). I am glad I also searched via text instead of just counting on the app to inform me that I already own something. But had I not felt that I might own them I would have purchased dupes unwittingly.
I think this might be because they do not have any sort of issue number (whether it be 'HC" or “1”). The books in my collection do not have the box blue if I try to add them manually but when I do that I get the warning they already exist in collection (!). Can you check to see what’s going on?
I have tons of trades without issue numbers and hope this isn’t a bug in the system otherwise the chances of me (or someone else) picking up something they already own are very high. Please let me know how I can help. I am happy to test with another title if needed. Thanks.
Hi. Thanks for the reply. I literally don’t know how to enter something manually: if they don’t come up from bar codes, covers scans or by typing the title I ask you guys in this Club to add them. Anyhow, after messing around with this situation more I think I’ve figured out what the “problem” is. Whether it’s my problem or a software problem I will leave up to you.
What happens is when scanning in a book that does not have an issue number, the queue does not inform you if you already have it or not because there’s no capacity to show a box with the issue number highlighted. See screen shots below for an example. In this case, the TPB “Cataclysm…” does not have an issue number yet “DC’s Greatest Imaginary…” does. When I scan the barcodes of each to ‘Add’ them to my collection I get the blue box of ownership for the DC book but not for the other. But If I press “Add 2 to Collection” I do get the message that they are already in the collection which is great and says things are working fine but it’s literally no help if I’m quickly scanning issues to figure out if I have it or not.

Hey thanks. I appreciate y’all looking into this more. I can easily imagine a lot of us getting burned at garage sales and the like as we try and quickly scan books.
Maybe a find / replace where all blank issue fields get changed to ‘1’ would solve the problem I am experiencing but maybe it’ll cause something worse? Of course in a perfect world there would be standardization for numbering of TP and HC collections: in the few examples in my screen shot alone we get “1TP”, “blank” and “1”. I have also seen “TP”, “HC”, “GN” and “TP-1” oftentimes with a mix under a single title…
Yeah indeed, if we put in TP or HC in the variant field it would solve the problem already. We’ll have to discuss this how we’re going forward, so we’ll do that.
