Any chance that the web app will get the desktop level filtering? I’m moving over from the desktop and the biggest loss in functionality is the absence of filtering.
I like to slice and dice my collection by various filters but I don’t have that ability on the web. Yes, I could add custom fields to capture some data points to allow the folders to do some of the work but it doesn’t really work out the same way.
Right now on the desktop, I can filter the collection and then change the views in the folder to show my the same set of games by platform or series or release year or what ever. So I can have multiple folder views that can slice up different filters. To do that with the web app would get a little much with all the combinations I might want to see.
It is on our ideas list, but no definite yes at this point. We’d definitely have to do a major overhaul of the cluttered difficult filter screen (which you as Desktop user of course know exactly how to use, but most users were very confused by it (which I can understand)) to make it on par with our web-app which is easier to use for most.
So one more quick example to see how you would solve this with the current web app:
Multi-select fields are the biggest problem I see with the web app. I’ve been able to get some similar data by simply creating nested folder views. So on the desktop app, I had a physical media filter that I could them apply and view my games by series or platform in the folders. But fields like genre, just don’t work.
I mean they do but not how I would want. If I wanted to see everything that was 2D, Side-scrolling, platformer, I can’t really get a single view because a game that had all those attributes would then be in all 3 places in the folder view. I can’t get a view with the intersection of all three values in the genre field.
Is there a way to do that that I can’t figure out?
There is not, no. But something similar to make this findable is on the ideas list, it just doesn’t get requested to often. Not to say it wouldn’t be cool to have.
