Hello, is there a way to make both fields identical—that is, having both “Artist” as (The Sweet) and “Artist Sort Order” as (The Sweet), rather than (Sweet, The)? … aside from manually editing each individual entry? The “Copy Fields” function doesn’t work for this, as the “Artist Sort Order” field cannot be selected.
If you don’t want to use the artist sortname (because making them identical basically means you want to sort your artist on the display name, right?), just do this:
- click the menu top left
- click “Settings”.
- Top right, under “Sorting” under “When sorting” check the box for "ignore sort names for Persons
- go back to your albums
The Sweet will now sort under the T. It ignores whatever is in the sortname for the artist!
I actually did that, but it still shows me, for example, “John Lennon” twice in the list…
Can’t I automatically fill this field with the correct name?
You can not rename an artist into the same you have for another artist. You can’t have 2 artists with “the same name and same sortname”.
But: If you have doubles you should merge them:
- Click the menu top left
- Click “Manage Pick Lists”
- Select the artist list
- Click “Merge Mode” (bottom right)
- Search (top left) for Lennon.
- Check the boxes in front of the ones you want to merge.
- click “Merge to” and select one of your John Lennons.
Done.
No need to modify the sortname anymore though because you now activated that setting as I can see.
thx
