Data entry for streamed audiobooks

Getting ready to import audiobooks that include titles that I stream from different streaming services. For all other formats, I use the author as Location and would like to list the streaming services separately.

  1. Has anybody handled that without a custom field?
  2. Or any good ideas to handle audiobooks where the fields work also in the book mobile app?

I’m not sure what you mean by using the author field as location. Because clz has a location field in mobile and web for that purpose. You should not need to put locations in the author field. And I personally put my streaming services in the “purchase store“ or “owner“ field, but the location field would work as well.

Best regards

Marina

I’m confused by this one as well, can you be more specific @Mainzer1954 ?

And you can use a Custom Field, Custom Fields ARE coming to mobile.. just a bit of a wait still

Marina, thank you so much for your suggestion to use the Purchase Store field for my streaming services. Makes so much sense and I tried it out this past weekend and tested the results also in the mobile app.

Just to clarify regarding the Location and Author fields:

For my collections, both for movies and audiobooks, I use the Location field to enter main author/actor (last name, first name) as the base. Then, with folder combinations, I try to create a useful method to read my Location results in a shorter scrollable list without having to enter first any search data (since I don’t know yet which author/audiobook I want).

For example, while scrolling through my Location folder (author list ) to get me into the mood , I decide to listen to an Alexander McCall Smith audiobook. I click on the author’s name. Now I need to be able to see which of his books I have physically available and which I have to locate through my streaming services. I achieved this by using the Purchased Store field and leave the physical media under “None” or used Publisher instead of the None list for another author.

Thanks to the newsletter updates, I know that the custom field transfer to the movie mobile app is very close. This will be fantastic. I used a workaround for my movies that I can remove with one batch update.

But I am just starting to import my audiobooks. There seem to be few fields suitable for audiobooks vs paper books, but there are some and I need to determine existing fields that I can use and avoid custom fields much as possible, for right now. It seems that I need more of those custom fields for my audiobooks than for my movies. But I may not understand yet how best to utilize the existing fields, especially those that I can pick to show up in the Pre-fill setup.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my problems/explanations!!
