[Fixed] Blue Beetle volume errors

Hi CLZ team,

You have errors in the numbering of the Blue Beetle Volumes. Essentially the Vol. 2 you have is a duplicate entry.

Vol. 1
#1-11 & 31-60 were published by Fox features

#12-30 were published by Holyoke. You currently have this series mistakenly listed as Vol.2. All the issues you currently have in Vol.2 are duplicate entries.

When Fox Features Syndicate ran into financial difficulties in 1942, Holyoke Publishing (who was also a printer, and to whom Fox owed money) took over the publication with issue 12. In 1944, when Fox was back on their feet, Fox resumed publishing Blue Beetle with issue 31.

From here each series is actually volume less than you have it listed

The actual Vol. 2 is the series you have listed as Vol. 3

Then the actual Vol. 4 is the is series you have as Vol. 5. It comprise only #50-54

Hi, thank you for posting! We had to look into this but don’t see a good reason to change this. Yeh the publisher switched but nothing much (storywise, look, etc.) changed. Splitting this off doesn’t necessarily fixes anything apart from it looking better in the eye of the database, it can cause more confusion to newer collectors that don’t know where to look. There are loads of other series we have merged into one in Core to solve this problem.

Another thing why won’t be doing this it can cause more problems for the users that are adding books to a volume that is now changed.

@CLZ_Justin, I think you’ve either misread or misunderstood my post. I’m not suggesting splitting this off. Your reasoning is the exact point I was trying to make, there is just one series. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

Currently you have duplicate entries. Blue Beetle vol. 1 and vol.2 are the same. The series you have listed as volume 2 does not exist, they are duplicates entered from volume 1.

Volume 1
#1-11 were published by Fox Features
#12-30 were published by Holyoke
#31-60 were published by Fox features

All the other Blue Beetle series thus have a volume number 1 higher than they actually should.

It took me a good hour or 2 for me to unpack all of this and work out I was looking for info on books that didn’t exist. Surely that sort of confusion is better to avoid by removing duplicate entries and correcting the numbering

Splitting #12-30 from Vol. 1 to Vol. 2 should cause the least amount of problems. Basically everything I said I was not going to do yesterday…
Changes to all of the volumes will cause many problems for everyone.

The 2 series have been split correctly. I’ll slowly be adding details to all of the comics. Thank you for bringing this up
