[Fixed] Spire Christian Comics - Errors and Inconsistencies

  1. Publisher - nearly all Spire Christian Comics show “Fleming H. Revell Co.” as publisher and “Spire Christian Comics” as the imprint, which is correct. These titles list “Spire Christian Comics” as publisher with no imprint [1 exception noted], which I assume should be changed to match the other titles.
    a. Archie’s Date Book #1
    b. Archie’s Sports Scene
    c. Barney Bear Out Of the Woods
    d. Barney Bear Sunday School Picnic #1
    e. Barney Bear: The Swamp Gang!
    f. Christmas With Archie
    g. Paul
    h. Archie’s Car #1A [lists “New Barbour Christian Comics” as publisher with no imprint; 1A is the original Spire version]

  2. Metadata / Image Discrepancies
    a. Archie’s Parables #1 - all metadata describes the 49 cent variant, image shows 39 cent variant
    b. Cross and the Switchblade #1B - all metadata describes the Spire 39 cent variant, image shows Barbour variant
    c. Noah’s Ark #1 - all metadata describes the 39 cent variant, image shows 49 cent variant

  3. Issue Numbers - all 46 stand-alone titles have no issue # and many have variants. Numbering is inconsistent in the core - some are blank, some have a 1 [or 1A, 1B, etc.], some list variants with no number [A, B, etc.], and two [Adam and Eve, Archie’s Roller Coaster] show as #0NN. My humble opinion: they should be blank unless there’s a variant, and then use A, B, etc. for ones with variants. Alternatively, each with a 1 and then 1A, 1B, etc.

  4. Cover Image - the cover for “Archie’s Roller Coaster” #0NN is cut off at the right side

  5. Typo - the word “Up” is not capitalized on the title “Live It Up”

  6. Duplicate - “Noah’s Ark” is listed twice. The extra version is named “Kiddies Christian Comics” which was really the sub-imprint name for this title.

Images for the books mentioned in #2 and #4.

  1. Publisher

The publishers and imprints have been corrected.
Archie’s car is a tricky one, because we cannot set imprints for a single issue. For now I will leave it as it is, but in the future this may be possible to do.

  1. These price variants have been corrected.
  1. I have corrected the two series you mentioned. If you can provide a list with the other titles, I can correct these as well.
  1. Cover Image has been corrected.
  2. Typo has been fixed.
  3. Duplicate has been corrected.

Thank you so much @CLZ_Taco !! Regarding #3 I’ll get a list together and send it.

Regarding Archie’s Car, just to clarify, it is just like the other ones you fixed - #1A should show “Fleming H. Revell Co.” as publisher and “Spire Christian Comics” as the imprint. The “New Barbour” designation shouldn’t be there for #1. It is for variants done years after the originals by a different publisher, but it is used in error on #1A because the image is for the original Spire version.

In what field do you suggest we add the “New Barbour” designation?
Publisher and imprint have been added.

So it actually doesn’t apply to #1A but would apply to #1B and #1C (if you look at the cover images you’ll see the Barbour logo on B and C). I would say the Barbour designation should go under the Variant field.

I notice the current variant description focuses on the price which is also fine.

Typically with Spire books, the early ones under Spire imprint are identified by price - 35 cent variant, 39 cent, 49 cent, etc. Then comes the Barbour variant. And in this case there are two Barbour variants with two prices.

So it could read “New Barbour Christian Comics, 79 cent variant” for example.

I have added it in the variant field.

Thank you again! I’ll work on the list for #3 later.

@CLZ_Taco , I noticed regarding my item #1, the publisher/imprint for these 3 didn’t get changed somehow (I updated from core to verify):

  • Barney Bear Sunday School Picnic
  • Barney Bear: The Swamp Gang!
  • Christmas With Archie

While we’re at it, would you mind removing the “:” from the Swamp Gang one since none of the others have a colon - that will make it consistent.

For item #3, here is a complete alphabetic list of Spire titles!

(Side note - note that Attack! lists as “Attack!, Vol. 6”. Vols 1-5 are by completely different publishers across decades. I almost listed this as something to change. Depends on CLZ’s preferred approach to multiple volumes across publishers. I notice in some cases titles are listed with publishers in () to distinguish.)

Thanks for sending me the list. I will be working through it in the coming days.

The series name " Barney Bear: The Swamp Gang!" has been corrected.

The series that didn’t change publisher should change now with “Update from Core”

Thank you @CLZ_Taco ! Yes everything updated after update from core.

@tmadoc, coming back to the list you shared. I will be correcting these Issue nr and variants.
Do these also need the publisher and imprint corrected like the others?

Hi @CLZ_Taco ! No that was already fixed, this is just about consistency with issue #s. Thank you very much!!

Regarding my blurb about Attack! — doing vol #s across publishers is (to me) a good way to go so I have no problem with it. I’ve just noticed some titles do this and others don’t. But that’s a bigger topic for another day :).

All issues in these series are now #1. When there is a variant they have been noted as A, B, etc

Awesome!! Thank you very much @CLZ_Taco !
