You raise an interesting question. I think it probably would be a good idea to just list the Blind Bag’s at their retail value in the beginning just as any book would be listed and have their sales dictate the value as sales are made later on. I checked ebay and I see people selling single copies right now for about the same as the retail and lots close to the same when broken down to single copies.
I’m curious how many people are sitting on these and not opening them up and if there would be a value to a collector later on as the years go by. For example, aren’t there many boxes of baseball and football cards that have never been opened? I know I have a bunch from the 90’s. Don’t unopened boxes of cards have a certain value because they might have a rookie card inside? On that note, shouldn’t Blind Bags be considered this way as well? They may or may not hold a valuable book, which is the whole marketing scheme behind Blind Bags.
But from what I’m understanding, CLZ is only listing what has been opened and revealed in these Blind Bags. So for those of us that are not opening up our Blind Bags, we are stuck with having to select a cover, which most likely is not the book inside our bag.
Now our stand on our database is to have comics in there, that are released, of course, and not have “duplicates”.
The blind bag presents us with a bit of a problem, because it is a “comic”, but you don’t know which one. We could of course have an “extra variant” or “issue” that just says “Blind Bag” - and it might have its own value even because it is unopened. I understand it from that point of view of course.
But our Core online database is not about unopened things. And bottom line inside… there would be a comic that IS already in Core.
You could, as an alternatively, just manually add an issue to that series and just take a picture of the blind bag, as cover. Name the variant “Blind Bag” - and be done with it.
You can edit it and enter your own value for it (I know it won’t track it from CovrPrice) - but I don’t see another solution (I don’t think we will add blind bags as loose variants, but we’ll keep an eye out for talk about this).
