Hi, where did you get the release date from? Is the interiors for these previews the same for both versions?
The interior stories are identical (except for last panel), but the ads and wrap are NOT identical, and the black copy has no indicia.
The grey version:
…has a Generation X logo on inside cover…
…and a poster centerfold…
…with a Marvel indicia on back page AND a “Coming September 1994” in the final panel.
…and has the cover year again on the back cover…
The BLACK version:
…has a FAN magazine promo on inside cover…
…and a FAN promo centerfold…
…and another promo on back cover with a “On Sale Monthly” in the last panel. No indicia as all but it does have a faint watermark on the cover visible in just the right light…
I got my advance copy of the BLACK version from Overstreet in September 1994 and still have the envelope it came in. I saw both versions at shows throughout the rest of the year.
I believe one of them was later bundled with something again late in 94 but cannot remember what - I just remember seeing them in a polybag with something - maybe an advance copy of FAN magazine?
