Inaccurate Price Data Amazing Spider-Man 363 Newsstand

Is it me or COVRPRICE has missing/inaccurate data for The Amazing Spider-Man #363 Newsstand? I don’t see all the eBay sold data for this particular cover in COVRPRICE. Also, calculations seem to be off. This is not a $91 book. Can you please double check? Attached screenshots from COVRPRICE and eBay Sold.

The answer here is multi-faceted.

  • CovrPrice brings in more than just eBay sales;
  • eBay misrepresents actual sales (especially on Best Offers, single bid auctions, and BINs), plus;
  • Recency is king.

There was a 9.8 slabbed newsstand Heritage sale that went for $74 on 12/23.

Ebay sales are very often inaccurate. That 11/28 sale actually went for $20 less than wht you showed in your screenshot (which is why it previously did not appear on CoverPrice, as we had the sale in quarantine until we could validate the actual sale price). So blindly following eBay sold is often folly and can lead to overpaying on comics (a major advantage of using CovrPrice is that we work to validate sales before including them in FMV’s).

The Heritage sale is the most recent recorded slabbed 9.8 sale, so it is weighed most heavily. We consider other recent sales in the FMV calculation, but they are older and, as such, don’t receive the same weight as the most recent sale. If more recent newsstand slabbed 9.8 sales come in, they will receive more weight than the Heritage sale.

Hello. Thanks for your reply!

There is an important aspect that still needs to be addressed, which is potential missing data. If you look at my screenshots closely, there was another book sold on eBay in Dec 5 for $149.95. If that’s missing in your source data, there might be others; therefore, I would highly recommend to check your source data to make sure is complete. Thanks!!

We don’t capture every eBay sale (can depend on the sale’s categorization on eBay), and even if we do capture it, it may not be displayed immediately. The 12/5 $149.95 sale was a best offer type, meaning an increased likelihood of eBay misrepresenting the actual final sale amount, and as such it needed additional vetting - which can take some time with the volume we’re processing on a daily basis. That sale has since been confirmed and if you look at the sales details you’ll see its showing on the CP site.

Definitely appreciate you diving deeper into the data on the CP site and providing feedback. Most people post here but don’t take that step, so they are often missing out on important context of the FMV for a given book/grade combo.
