Marvel Masterworks Numbering Corrections

Going through the main Marvel Masterworks title (for the direct market) there are a few duplicates and listing errors. I submitted the cover image correction on a previous topic but here are the rest for clarity and consistency:

Issue #1HC-A should just be #1HC with variant HC

Issue #9HC-A should just be #9HC with variant HC

Issue #17HYC-A should be #17HC with variant HC

Issue #18HC-A should be #18HC with variant HC

Issue #19HC (with the cover image for issues 7-18) should be changed to #19HC-B with variant HC-B NOTE: Somehow both versions of this book ended up with the same number

Issue #26HC-A should be #26HC with variant HC

Issue #31HC-B should be renamed to #31HC with variant HC. Issue #31HC-A should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: X-Men

Issue #32HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the silver cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Silver Surfer or renamed to #32HC-B

Issue #36HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Captain America or changed to #36HC-B

Issue #47HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Sub-Mariner or changed to #47HC-B

Issue #51HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Human Torch or changed to #51HC-B

Issue #53HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the silver cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Fantastic Four or changed to #53HC-B

Issue #64HC is duplicated and should be merged.

Issue #90HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the silver cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Uncanny X-Men or changed to #90HC-B

Issue #91HC-B should be renamed to #91HC

Issue #102HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Marvel Comics or changed to #102HC-B

Issue #103HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the silver cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Fantastic Four or changed to #103HC-B

Issue #115HC-B is a duplicate of #115HC - however the cover image is better so I would keep it.

Issue #136 should be renamed to #136HC with variant HC

Issue #142HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Human Torch or changed to #142HC-B

Issue #153HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the silver cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Sub-Mariner or changed to #153HC-B

Issue #154HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Mystic Comics or changed to #154HC-B

Issue #161HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Captain America or changed to #161HC-B

Issue #162HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the silver cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Avengers or changed to #162HC-B NOTE: The cover for the regular #162HC is wrong but I just submitted the correct one on my previous topic.

Issue #168HC is duplicated. The one with the grainy image should be removed.

Issue #183HC (there are two with this name - I am talking about the one with the gold cover) should be relocated to Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Marvel Comics or changed to #183HC-B

Thank you for letting us know about these.

One question though, what exactly do you mean exactly with "Issue #1HC-A should just be #1HC with variant HC"

in the case of variants we maintain a variant letter for the entry in order to differentiate both editions.

The numbering I am referring to is the pattern of consistency on the title.

Look at the following for the first four issues for example:

Note it follows the pattern #xHC for the direct edition 1st print and #xHC-A for the reprints, etc.

And in some places no differentiation at all like this one:

Or as is the case here the 1st print direct edition is given the B variant when it is in fact the original and the silver one should not even be listed under this title.

So if you go through my list above and make those changes this title should be straightened out (at least for the first 185 issues).

The main thing to know about Marvel Masterworks is that there are TWO titles for each volume. The main title “Marvel Masterworks” is actually a direct market only series with unique UPC and strictly limited print runs (sometimes only a couple hundred) and always a marble background. Then there are silver covered books that are the mass market, different UPC, no limit on print runs, and with completely different 1-based numbered based on the title they reprint.

If you need more info I can supply it - just ask. I have a pretty complete set of these. I would like to see the marble covers that are incorrectly placed with the silver editions moved to the main title as well where they belong (many of which are actually duplicates)
