Music collector 23.1.1 CONSTANTLY crashing or closing

Hi I have Music collector 23.1.1 for windows with a fairly large database. Using windows 11. I dont think its a memory issue as I have 64 gigs. The software is CONSTANTLY crashing or closing with no warning. Its gotten to the point It wont stay open for more than 5 minutes. Are there any log files that I can check to see whats going on? Any ideas.

When I check your email address with us I only see CLZ Music Web - but perhaps you have another email address used for Music Collector (I see a very old expired one too that looks like yours).

I checked it because I kinda wanted to know how many albums you have in your Windows version.

Some things to try:

  1. The program may be trying to initialize a barcode scanner at startup, but failing because the scanner is not present. Have you in the past maybe used a barcode scanner, e.g. the OPN-2001 or the Flic scanner?
To solve this, you would need to remove that “Initialize scanner at startup” setting from the registry manually.
    Here’s how:
  • make sure Music Collector is not running
  • open the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
  • navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Collectorz.com\Music\Settings
  • there, remove the “Automatically Activate Flic” entry (just delete it)
  • close RegEdit
  • Restart Music Collector
  1. A firewall may be blocking the program’s internet access, but not in the right way. A firewall that blocks access should result in an instant “access denied”, but we’ve seen some firewalls somehow hanging up the internet request, causing slowness.
Can you check your firewall software to see if our software is allowed to access the internet? Maybe completely remove the rule for your Collector program, then re-add it?

  2. Track view can be VERY slow with many albums, so make sure you use View > Album view only as a test.

  3. Use LIST view, and have LESS columns (click menu View > Columns and pick just album artist and album title as a test)

thx. I’ll give that a try. By the way I have 6892 albums with almost 265,000 tracks. I use mostly track view because I’m going thru Marvin Podd’s publication and comparing his list of R&B and Doo-wop songs to what I have.

still crashing or closing down abruptly. any other thought?

Have you limited the amount of columns for track view as well? Like just 2 columns to see if that helps/works?

Can you test for a while without using track view?
I think it stumbles and fails on that.

helped somewhat but still getting closings but at less frequent intervals, same w/o using track view

You could try a registry reset reinstall:

Please follow the steps below to try and resolve this issue, this process will affect some local settings in your software such as the width of columns, but your database will not be affected.

Here’s what to do:

  • Click the Windows start icon and type ‘regedit’ into the search box, then press ENTER.

  • Locate the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Collectorz.com > Music

  • Select that “Music” folder entry there and delete it!

  • Download and install Music Collector from your My CLZ page:
    https://my.clz.com

  • After installing, you will have to unlock the software. Fill in your username/password to unlock the software.

  • Before actually opening your database, try adding one album to this empty database, just to check if it all works fine!

  • Now, reopen your database: Click File > Open then locate the database file in order to get things working again.

But again, with only album view for now as a test then

Well that worked for a while with hardly any closures but now its even worse with multiple access violations while loading and then a crash. Also 23.1.1 is no longer available on my My CLZ page to download do you have a link? also going thru my e-mails I cant find my purchase e-mail. I am VERY willing to repurchase it but cant find a link. Any way to do this?

When I check your account on the email address you’re using here, I’m seeing only CLZ Music Web attached to it.

I also see an account with a similar name from 2004 but it only has a very old version of Music Collector attached to it.

I recommend going to help.clz.com and initiate an email conversation, and include all old email addresses you have so we can merge your account into one. (Let’s get that done first)

Then also ask to be helped by AJ with regards to slow Music Collector so I can continue support there with you, maybe try more things!
