I’ve done some field switching. I wanted the film production companies to be different than the film distributors. I decided to use the Distributor field for the film distributor instead of the album manufacturer so I transferred all the data in the Distributor field to the Storage Device field in the Personal tab. Then I started adding the distributors to the Distributor field. All my disc manufacturers are now in the Storage Device field.
Sometimes when adding a movie the manufacturer pops into the Distributor field but I just move it to the Storage Device field. Same when distributors pop up in the Studios field - just move them to Distributors field.
Works fine so far but don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble somehow later on.
I don’t think it will cause troubles, Storage Device is a field you could indeed use for it.
But I wanted to make sure you know that there is a Studios field on the main tab (and indeed Distributor on the Edition tab. Would those two fields not be better for what you want to accomplish?
Note: We are working on adding Custom Fields to CLZ Web, where you can just create any field yourself.
Thanks for the response. I should probably try to be clearer. I am using the Studios field and the Distributor field that you mention. This Studio field is auto-populated by, I presume, data from the IMDb from their Production Company field and Distributor field. The data that shows up can be from one, the other or both. The Distributor field on the Edition tab seems to populate from the album manufacturer (which I guess is also a distributor of sorts) so I’m now using that field for the original film distributor and I move whatever auto generated data from that into the Storage Device field on the Personal tab. So I am using two of the fields you suggest plus the Storage Device field to show:
STUDIO (Main tab) - the actual production company(ies) of the film.
DISTRIBUTOR (Edition tab) - the actual first distributor of the film. Can’t add more because that is a single-entry field.
DISC MANUFACTURER (using STORAGE DEVICE on Personal tab) - the actual manufacturer of the disc or set containing the film(s).
This works pretty well for me now but I’m looking forward to the customized fields. BTW it would be helpful if you could have multiple entries in the Country field and the Distributor field.
As for country and making it into a multi field: heard it once or twice before. Right now we’re using the main production country, or well, what IMDb gives us on the license. It’s on the ideas list here to make it multi, but it has been for a while (rather be honest here).
With Custom Fields you will be able to create your own Country field I suppose, and make it a multi field yourself
