I’ve just accidentally discovered the ‘Headers’ function in the track listing page. I’m not sure what the intention is, but I used it for multi-part tracks (I like prog rock, and it’s very common to have several ‘movements’ in the one song.)
However, each ‘track’ I add under the Header gets its own track number, so if Track 1 has 4 movements, then the track that is actually Track #2 is assigned Track #5, and all subsequent tracks are similarly out of whack.
So what I’d like is for tracks that are under a header to use their own numbering scheme, so it looks like this -
1. Big Epic Song
1.1 First part
1.2 Second part
1.3 Almost done
1.4 Big Finish
2. Second Track
3. Next Track
4. And so on
Are they not separate tracks, but actually all in the same track? I use headers as well, but normally the sub-tracks are individual tracks, so the current numbering system works well (example below).
This is the way it’s shown on the album: the title of a composition or group, with the movements as individual tracks. They are separated as individual tracks on the album, so the “Prelude” is actually the 4th track. Most digital player apps work this way as well, e.g. Roon will show the individual parts of a composition as separate tracks with following tracks numbered in sequence.
Thanks Tony, but the tracks I’m on about are not separate tracks. Prog rock is rife with pretensiously multi-part compositions that have ‘movements’ within a track. The band Yes is a prime example.
Ah, that’s a bit more challenging if they’re not actually separate tracks. I seem to recall that in the desktop software you could add sub-tracks, but that’s not available in the web version. That would be a nice way to do it. If the numbering of tracks under headers gets changed as you suggest, then we’d have the opposite problem: if they actually are separate tracks as in my example, then the subsequent numbering would be off - so we either need subtracks that don’t impact numbering, or the option to renumber tracks.
Headers are meant for grouping tracks. So that’s why the numbers continue within a header. It is mean to stay the same track list, but just grouped into sections.
