Add Prefix To Catlog No

Hi there,

I use the catlog no. field for own catalog numbers since custom fields are unfortunately not supported in the web version, which seems to be the future of this software.
Now I wish to add a prefix to my catalog no, for example VNL for Vinyl. So, if the existing Catalog number is 2699, I with to make it VNL-2699. I will do this for all marked albums and did not find anything like this in the documentation.

Thanks for the help.

Just curious to know why you can’t leave the catalog number as it is, and use the Format field to be “Vinyl”. This syncs through the system.

Hello Stevej,

I know the format field. I need this catalog number field with the prefix for special purposes. Do you know an answer to my question?

You still haven’t explained why you need to do this. If you said what your “Special Purposes” were I might be able to help better.
In Movie Collector I often re-purpose fields, rather than using UDFs. In MuC the fields that you could repurpose, assuming that you don’t already use them, would be “Subtitle”, “UPC (Bar Code)” or “Tour Name”

You can not use edit multiple to pre-fix existing data in the Catalog Number (or any other field). There is no feature/edit multiple feature to pre or post fix any field.

It would also invalidate your Catalog number field, prefixing it with VNL makes it an invalid catalog number.

I understand you want this for special purposes, I’m also curious what they are so we can think of perhaps an alternative solution for you.

Hi there,

thanks for the answers. I come from catraxx a few years ago. In Catraxx, there is a alpha numeric field called “reference no”. It did not exist in Collector Desktop App. So I made a user defined field which worked fine. I use this reference no for labels.

Since Alwin announced Web will be the future and there is no user defined custom field, I asked for a solution and was pointed to the feature moving data entries from one field to another. So I moved the original Catalog Number to the “notes” field (I do not use the catalog number tbh) an the reference number to the catalog number, so I got this number in the Web App. The new numbers are just numerical and I search DB with a barcode scanner ( I print labels with QR Codes which contains Catalog number / reference number). So, when I search for catalog number 12, I will receive much more albums then just the Cat 12. I can avoid it using alphanumerical entries.

No idea here?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

User defined fields will eventually make it to CLZ Web though, but right now it doesn’t have it. Good to hear you were able to get the data you want into a field on web though.

There is no “specific field” search in CLZ Web, but this is on the ideas list. So when searching “12” it will search a lot of fields for all your albums, and return everything that has “12” in it.

I do understand you’d like to have VNL- in front of it or something else, that would narrow down the search results right now, but I don’t have a way of doing that in CLZ Web for you I’m afraid.
