The following variants of Spire Christian Comics are missing from the CLZ database [the titles are in the database, only these variants are missing]. Covers for each are shown. There are likely others missing too but these are the ones relevant to my collection at least!
A quick guide: titles generally went through these iterations: Spire imprint - 35 cent, 39 cent, 49 cent, 59 cent, 69 cent; Barbour imprint (years later) - 69 cent, 79 cent. A few Spire variants have no price.
Archie’s Circus - Barbour 69 cent edition
Archie’s One Way - Spire 39 cent edition
Archie and Big Ethel - Spire 69 cent edition
Archie Gets a Job - Barbour 79 cent edition
Barney Bear Family Tree - Spire no price edition
Barney Bear Wakes Up - Spire 39 cent edition
Born Again - Spire no price edition
God Is - Spire 39 cent edition
Jesus - Spire 49 cent edition
Up From Harlem - Spire 39 cent edition
Nice!! Thank you very much @CLZ_Rowdy ! As I added these I noticed two of them had the variant price description added but the actual price is still something else - specifically these two:
Ahh…forgot also to mention the “Jesus” title shows the publisher/imprint as “New Barbour Christian Comics” which was the later imprint. All the rest of these Spire comics show as Publisher “Fleming H. Revell Co.” and Imprint “Spire Christian Comics”. So the other variants added should be updated to reflect that as well. Thank you again for all the updates!!
For the “Jesus” series I have corrected the Publisher to “Fleming H. Revell Co.” and Imprint to “Spire Christian Comics”. Thank you for letting us know.
Sorry @CLZ_Rowdy I should have been specific :). And yes I’m sure I can manually edit the details, however my understanding is that it’s preferable to request that it be fixed in the Core so (a) it will be corrected for everyone, and (b) my change won’t be overwritten if I ever ‘update from core’ on that entry.
To summarize the remaining fix: the Publisher for the following titles should be set to “Fleming H. Revell Co.” and the Imprint to “Spire Christian Comics”. You mentioned you had already done this for “Jesus” but the change didn’t “take”. Also: I discovered one more that needs the change (listed below with the rest).
Thanks @CLZ_AJ ! That’s actually just what I was doing. I set ALL fields to “replace”. Unfortunately for some reason this particular change just isn’t going through. Here’s what I’m seeing after trying to update 3 of the ones that were changed - it shows 0 changes. Same on the other 2 books. I know the update from core works in general - I’ve used it many times to update changes you guys have made. So I’m not sure what’s wrong here. Maybe the change just didn’t go through?
That is strange, I will test this tomorrow, to see if the feature is broken, because the fixed publisher/imprints are visible in Core on our side. Will get back to you on that.
Or perhaps it’s not going to all the variants? I’m only checking the variants that Rowdy added as listed earlier in the thread - maybe those variants were missed as far as this change?
I’m catching up here. I love the Spire books. Would Barbour Christian Comics be considered an imprint of the overall Fleming H. Revell Co?
“In the 1980s, Barbour & Company, founded by Hugh Revell Barbour, acquired the rights to republish many of the titles in the Spire Christian Comics line under the New Barbour Christian Comics imprint, keeping the comics in print until 1988.”
Hi @Valeyard ! Technically, once Barbour got the rights, both publisher and imprint should probably change, however I’ve been told you can’t switch publishers between one variant and the next in CLZ.
I prefer the original Spire books personally. They are so well done and have great stories! And I still couldn’t believe they allowed the Archie characters into this world! 3 of the most underrated issues were the ‘Adventures With the Brothers’. What are your faves?
