I have a lot of criterion films, as I’ve said in other posts. These often have full length documentaries on them, short films, other versions of the film, etc. This also applies to some box sets, like Blade Runner which has a doc on it and then 4 versions of the same film. Versions I’m not too worried about, but I was wondering about the docs as I’d like to see these as some of the films I own in my Movie Connect and Android App library. Does anyone create box sets from a normal film to include these longer type special features as separate film entries in their library? Thanks!
The way I see it, it’s your collection. Anything goes.
I personally have never created my own box set due to having special features. However, I have added a number of doccu-style films to existing box sets. Clint Eastwood: 40-Film Collection is one that comes to mind. It contains 38 films and 2 Documentaries that are untheatrical releases that come with the set.
Yeah, I’ve done that too. These docs I’m talking about have a TMDB page and everything or I don’t add them to the box set. I just wanted some way to review the docs and still link them to the actual physical media they came from. That’s why I was thinking maybe making the physical item be a box set would be the way to go. They’re separate, but then still connected through the box set. Didn’t want to do it and mess something up but not find out until I’ve done 200+ films and have to redo them all lol. I’ve learned to ask first from experience if you can’t tell lol
LOL Think we’ve all done that once or twice.
Unfortunately, not all are on TMDB. I even add Hot links to my collection for quick access I use many and include lots in my collection. Here is my list maybe this will help you If you dont find something in TMDB.
That’s a good idea to link like that. I’ll keep that in mind as I’m working through the collection.
Here’s an example of one film I split the documentary out of and how it looks making the film a box set instead of a single instance. Appreciate any thoughts you might have.
I should add the reason I want to have these separate is twofold:
- To be able to comment on the docs that are in the special features/extras, rate, etc.
- Because I could not find the doc by searching when it was simply listed as an extra in the metadata. Maybe that’s something Window’s software does better than the online web version, Idk but I would hate to buy something (I really like docs on films and the people involved with them so I do buy them) when I have them on the extras of a film I already own.
