Author Photo Is Not The Right Author

Hi, I was going through and updating info for some of my books and I noticed that on one of the books, Lord Darcy, by Randall Garrett, actually had the picture for another author, Eric Flint, who was an editor on the book. Garrett was the only author listed in the book details. I have several different versions of this book and all of those pictures actually were Randall Garrett. So I thought it might have just been a ‘glitch’ of some sort when my data was ported over from the desktop application, so I tried deleting the author, saving the book, then going back in and adding the author back. However, the same incorrect picture shows up. I tried this on one of the books that had the correct picture, and the correct picture shows back up when I add the author back. I didn’t want to have to delete my book and add it back for something as seemingly inconsequential as a wrong picture, so I added another copy of the book from the core, and the copy I added had the wrong picture. However, I noticed that the copy that I added also had the editors listed as authors as well, so that may be why Eric Flint’s picture showed up there. I tried deleting all the authors except for Randall Garrett, and it still showed Eric Flint’s picture. So I deleted that ‘test’ book, then added another copy that only had Randall Garrett listed as the author and sure enough, the correct picture of the author showed up. I think what happened on that one copy of the book, is I added the one with all 3 authors listed and then removed 2 of them. I supposed I could delete and add back, with only the correct author, but for now, it’s not that big of a deal. So I don’t know if this is actually something that needs looking at, but I thought I might post this so if anybody else is having the issue, this might explain it. Let me know if this is something that CAN be fixed. It’s not a major issue at all, just odd. I can get by for now with making sure only the main author(s) are listed when I add a book.

Thanks as always, and apologies if this has been discussed previously.

I am confused by your post as to what happened.

An author is just a pick list item, that might be connected to Core, if it is, you get the author image we have for that author.id in your CLZ Books Web.

Does that.. help..?

I apologize for the confusion. I have several books for Randall Garrett. On one of the books, the author picture was not Randall Garrett, but another author, Eric Flint. All of my other Randall Garrett books have the correct photo for him. I think it has to do when I add a book from core that has multiple authors, and it picks one of the authors to pull the picture from. Then if I delete all but one author, the entry still has the original picture that the system had chosen when I originally entered the book. That’s all. If I add a copy of the book from core that only has one author, it pulls the correct photo.

Okay.. are you, okay then for now?

I’m having trouble reproducing this, and if there is a bug we should fix it. If you have this as a reproduceable bug, can you write it like this so I can try to reproduce this:

  1. Open add screen and click this and that
  2. Search this specific ISBN
  3. Add it
  4. Note that x or y is wrong

With short steps I might be able to get it reproduced and on the bug list!

Thanks, Alwin. Yes, I am ok for now.

Here’s the simplest method that I can think of showing the problem:

  1. Open add screen.

  2. Search for Lord Darcy, ISBN 978074343548. The authors should be Guy Gordon, Randall Garrett, and Eric Flint.

  3. Add book to collection

  4. The author picture should show as Eric Flint.

  5. Delete Guy Gordon and Eric Flint from the Authors section and save.

  6. The remaining author, Randall Garrett, still shows Eric Flint’s picture.

  7. Remove Randall Garrett from authors section and save.

  8. Go back in and add Randall Garrett back and save. Eric Flint’s picture appears instead of Randall Garrett.

Let me know if you need any more info.

That was a lot easier to reproduce than I thought.

I’ve reported the bug in our system to see what we can do for fixing this  Thank you!

Cool. Glad I could help!
