@CLZ_AJ
I’m pretty good about backing up my collection as well as sync’ing it to the cloud. Well, this morning I was awoken by thunder and lightning as happens here periodically. And as usual the byproduct is power interruption. So, after my internet and PC’s rebooted, I flipped open CLZ and got an error regarding not being able to find my CLZ Db. No panic though, I opened my latest (I think) back up and got busy. Minimal lost data. Yea so I thought! But I soon noticed my Column, Sort and Folder presets were gone. Not the end of the world I can rebuild them, yet still a Pain. Thus far this is the only problem I’ve had with this Db restore. Hope I never need to do this again but … Mother Nature can be a Mother F**ker.
I have a couple of related questions:
#1 Backup management & restore: When I went into my backup folder, I saw this and was unsure which backup to use. I saw 4 files that seemed to have been created the same time/date??? Are they the same? I just picked one and ran with it. Is there a proper approach to this?
#2 Favorites Settings: How / or can I maintain the same Column, Sort and Folder favorite presets in the event of another disaster? Also noticed these are not the same in the cloud.
That said I am slowly grooming my PC Db to eventually make the switch to web base and hopefully not have issues like this. Maybe sooner than later.
1: Just use date modified to sort and pick the latest. Look at the size as well. COPY one to your Documents > Movie Collector folder and open it. If you open it from that folder, it might backup on itself, which can lead to weird stuff.
As for how many you’re seeing it is creating backups on startups of the program/closing, so yeah it can have multiple from the same day.
Columns/Sorting/Folders are saved as TXT and XML files in Documents > Movie Collector (depending on where you have your setting files stored in Tools > Options:
You should, if you have a lot, zip them up and store them on a USB once in a while.
You might also want to just zip the entire Documents > Movie Collector to a USB.
I say “zip” because that usually helps me quickly see that it’s still a backup instead of loose files that might look like they are “currently in use” (you dont want to accidentally work from your backup folder).
I just recommend copying the file to the regular documents > movie collector folder normally, because I’ve seen so many people mess up with 100s of “backup files” scattered all over the place, but I feel you are Windows-pro enough to have your files in order. Using File > Save Database As will do that trick too. Just save it in Documents > Movie Collector, and not in the backup folder.
Yes, the set of settings files always gets created if they’re missing from the data folder as appointed in Tools > Options.
