In all pages the basic information (‘Collection Status’, ‘Index’, ‘Quantity’ en ‘Location’) is shown at the bottom. Because it is the basic information, I would like to put it on top of each page.
If not a general change, maybe this could be a setting?
I’m not sure what you mean with “all pages”?
In the Edit Album screen these 4 fields will appear at the bottom of the Edit Album screen. This can not be changed (and I really see no reason why it should).
As for the Details Panel
- Collection status is already at the top right (look for the checkmark icon).
- Index is also at the top to the right of the cover.
- Quantity will only show at the top IF the quantity is HIGHER than 1.
- Location will show under “Personal”, indeed, under the track listing.
The details panel is a set panel, and one can not move fields up/down/left/right and currently there are no plans to make this to be user customizable.
I’m sorry. By ‘page’ I meant ‘tab’.
But as for “I don’t see any reason why”, I gave a reason: it’s basic information and therefore wanted on top. This placement could be a setting as I suggested.
After some research I can see what you mean by ‘Details’. You mean the details of the current album in the right panel (I’ve chosen the vertical presentation).
So there is a confusion about the meaning of ‘Details panel’. I’m talking about the Edit tab-pages. In the edit mode there are tab-panels (or ‘pages’) with the same name: Main, Details, Classical, etc.
In these edit-tab-pages (there should be a unique identifier for these pages!) the basic information is presented at the bottom of each page (or ‘tab’). These are the pages I was talking about.
You’re a bit harsh on users preferences. It doesn’t affect the underlying database, so why can a user not configure any screen to his or her convenience? I would like this info on top.
Furthermore: I think the quantity should always be shown, even if it’s ‘1’.
It used to always be shown, but it was confusing to users.
The fields at the bottom are always in view, at the bottom of the Edit Album screen (that is the identifier for that screen.
The reason they’re at the bottom is because the different “tabs” in the Edit Album screen are at the top, and the fields belonging to that tab, are directly under it.
The bottom bar fields which are visible on any tab because they’re important, will just always be in view, and are not part of the “main” tab or “personal” tab or any tab.
I hope that explains our design choice here a bit better.
I’m wondering though, do you see them in view, all the time? Here’s what it looks like for me:
Quick note:
If for every single suggestion we should “make it an option” we would have a Settings screen with 100s of settings, so that is why I do not think it should be a setting. (Often when a suggestion comes and we say “we don’t feel that is the right course for the software”, users will come back with “Just make it a setting”. We could also just say, “thank you for your suggestion, I’ve taken note”, and then just not do anything with it. But we’d rather be honest).
Thanks for your answer.
I think may be there was a confusion about the meaning of screen, page and tab. Yes, on my screen (hardware) the edit-screen looks the same as in your image. I have the feeling I do understand now what you mean and what your design choices are.
It’s ok the way it is. It’s no problem.
