Box Set options

What are the pros and cons of adding a box set of multiple movies as a box of 1 movie and adding as a box set of multiple movies?

You will be able to see more individual details when adding a box set of multiple movies. I suggest adding one both ways so you can see the differences for yourself. Then you can decide which way you want to go.

Can a title in a box set be edited. I have a European release of a franchise and the US release. The first movie has a different name for the US release. Their is also dialog differences. Bar-code brings up proper cover but the wrong titles.

@RoseySoft Yes, the title can be edited. When you add a box set, all it does is add the individual movies and then creates a separate entity for the box set and attaches those movies to the box set entity. When you then modify the individual movie titles, they’ll automatically update in the box set entry. If you edit the box set entry, you can rearrange the order of the movies and edit some of the info specific to the box set itself. Like roybo suggested, I’d suggest adding in a box set and playing around with it. You can always remove it from your collection if you mess things up and start over, or if you decide it’s not how you want to enter your movies. You can even add the same titles into your collection multiple times without any issues. The system will recognize that you have an already existing title and ask if you still want to add the new title. If you say “yes”, then it will create a new entry without touching your existing entry.

@Hamish1959 I was initially a little leery of using the box set feature when it first came out, but now I use it all the time! Here’s some things to consider. Adding the movies as one entry rather than multiple movies might save you some time, especially if you like to add custom covers or other info. If you add them as one entry, you’ll lose some info though, such as IMDB rating (because the system wouldn’t know which movie to pull the rating from). You’ll lose the plots from the contained movies, instead getting a summary that says something like “This collection contains these movies…”. If the movies in the box set are TV series, I’m not sure how the box set handles episodes for the separate videos. I suspect you’ll end up losing those as well. In that case, it’s probably better to enter the box set as separate movies just to retain the episode lists. In the same fashion, you’ll lose much if not all of the info that’s unique to each movie.

Again, like roybo suggested, try adding in a box set both ways and see which way you like better and then just remove the one you don’t want. The system will allow you to do that. And if you mess things up, you can always remove all the entries you added and just start over.
