Cannot hide eBay link from movie details page

Saw this same unanswered question for books, same exists for movies web. Looks dangerously like an advertisement in a product where I am a long-time paid subscriber.

I do not want to see eBay links under any circumstances, please provide a way to disable this fully to not be shown.

Again, long time subscriber of multiple CLZ apps and version. Thanks much!

The “find on eBay” links in the details panel is indeed a new and OPTIONAL feature that we introduced recently.

The details panel for your CLZ Web software now includes automatically generated eBay search links, next to the cover image, that let you search eBay to find listings for that particular item.

These eBay links can be useful for two reasons:

  • For the items you own: easily get a feel for that item’s value, by finding its’ Completed/Sold listings on eBay.
  • For the items on your wish list: easily find available copies on eBay, for you to purchase.

Of course, this feature is OPTIONAL. To switch it OFF completely:

  • open the Settings screen from the menu
  • in the Settings screen, look under “eBay search links”
  • there use “Show/Hide eBay links” toggle and set it to “Do not show in my CLZ Web”.

Instead of switching if OFF completely, you can also:

  • opt for a more subtle placement of the link further down the details panel, under Links
  • opt to show it for Wish List items only

HOWEVER, can you tell me why it “looks dangerously like an advertisement”?

Show/Hide has no effect, as noted I believe in the post on the CLZ Book Web post. It is also confusing because when hide is on, all the other options are still available (I would think they would be greyed out/disabled if hide selected).

The option to “show as text at bottom” is also selected and also appears to have no effect, as well as the option to show “on wish list items only”, as it shows on all my movies (and book/comics) that I own.

To me the styling and placement feel like the placement of an ad, and the wording sounds like an ad, “we may be compensated for any purchase you make”. That is my personal reaction to it.

Honestly it is a minor complaint but really the first one I have had in many, many years of using this. If it’s just several bugs with it, then I’m sure y’all will have it fixed soon.

Can you tell me, or show me, where the eBay link still shows after selecting the “Hide all eBay links” option?

I logged into your account, confirmed that the setting is set to “Hide” and I do not see eBay links in your software anywhere. See screenshot below:

I am sorry to hear that.
When using eBay affliliate links, that “disclaimer” text is a mandatory text, we have to include it “near” the link. I hate it too, but it has to be there. Maybe we can play around with a different placement.

But, I understand, the link itself is completely not useful or interesting to you?

I played around and it seems to be a dark theme issue, where the styling seems reversed in the dark theme.

Dark theme (working, looks reversed):

Switch to light theme with no changes and it appears like the values reverse:

Haha okay… In my view, looking at the dark mode screenshot above, it is completely clear that the “Hide all eBay links” option is selected, because that is the radio button with the extra “dot” in it.

In most of my apps w/ dark theme, an empty circle is unselected, which is what it looks like in the dark theme that is actually selected here.

Perhaps some subtle tweaks to the dark theme would make it clearer. Several Microsoft examples use a “thick circle” to indicate selected with the standard empty circle as unselected.

Other places sometimes use color to clarify:

But yes, it hides it just fine now from details page. As usual, keep up the good work and strong customer engagement, believe me we notice and appreciate how responsive y’all are here!

Which is the same in ours

The completely white empty circle is the unselected one.
The one with the black dot in it, is the SELECTED one.
That is how radio buttons usually work, the dot indicates the selected one.

If you look at my other pictures, that is not what those do in the dark theme for radio buttons. I have seen nowhere else for a radio button in dark theme be selected as an empty white circle and not selected as a filled-in white circle. I have it turned off now so I am good, but I still argue the dark theme is inconsistent with general accepted use for radio buttons in a dark theme, with noted examples from Microsoft and Google in the pictures I showed.

It’s OK, I was just trying to make a suggestion to make it clearer.

Quoted from today’s email:

Two weeks ago, we introduced the new “Automatic eBay search links” in your CLZ Web software. After launch, we received quite a bit of feedback about this feature, both positive and… let me say… less positive :slightly_smiling_face:

So we sat down, went over all feedback, and then came up with some tweaks to make everyone happy!

First, I have to repeat: this feature is OPTIONAL.
Most users love having the quick and easy access to eBay listings for their collectibles, either to:

  • easily get a feel for an item’s value, by finding its Completed/Sold listings on eBay.
  • easily find available copies on eBay, useful for your wish list items.

However, if you don’t see the value in this, if you don’t find this useful, then you can easily DISABLE this feature in the CLZ Web’s Settings screen, on the bottom right, under “eBay search links”.

Here’s what we changed and added in today’s update:

  • Details panel link next to cover image: we remove the eBay logo, so that the link is less “in your face” and more subtle.
  • Link text will now shows where it takes you (“find on eBay” vs “find sold listings on eBay”)
  • New optional position: on the toolbar of the details panel (ON by default, switch it OFF in Settings)
  • New optional position: add the eBay link as a column in the List View
  • Settings: when disabling the entire feature, the rest of the settings are instantly hidden, as they don’t apply anymore.
  • Settings: when disabling the entire feature, the eBay link is now also removed from the Value tab of the Edit screen.

@CLZ_Alwin I really like these changes y’all have made to the eBay feature! I think this is a great way to balance the different preferences of your user base. It’s not a feature I’ll use a lot, but I really like the option of having it available and being able to place it out of the way on the toolbar and in the links list. And it looks like you’ve modified the dark theme to use a different color to denote radio button selection, which nicely addresses @billcoxva’s concern. Thanks for making these changes and being so receptive to criticism! It’s appreciated!
