I am a very happy current user of the desktop versions of Book, Movie, and Music Collector installed on a Windows 10 laptop. I am planning to buy a new Windows 11 laptop. This seems to be the perfect time to embrace the web versions. I will be keeping the Windows 10 laptop (I enrolled in Extended Security Updates). I plan to have concurrent desktop and web subscriptions and let the desktop subscription run out on it’s own.
Can you provide any guidance on how to make this transition? One big problem I have is that OneDrive was actively running for a while after CollectorZ software was installed. After I found that OneDrive was doing things behind my back without permission or notification I unlinked it. One of the first things I am going to do with the Windows 11 laptop is stop/disable/uninstall OneDrive. I now have data in two locations:
C:\Users\denni\Documents\xxxCollector
C:\Users\denni\OneDrive\Documents\xxxCollector
Neither location contains the latest files. For instance one has the latest Image and Thumbnails folders and the other the latest Backup folder and .xml files. The MyCollection.xxx file is only in the folder in the OneDrive path.
In order to clean up my data should I first run the appropriate functions under Tools → Maintenance? Second, make a backup of the data in both locations. Third, make 3 xxxCollector folders on an external drive. Then copy the data files from the two folders to the external drive, keeping the latest versions. Lastly, copy these latest files to the two locations on the laptop. At this point I can transition to the web version. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for considering converting to the Web version. Please know that if you use the Trade-in Deal we have ( Trade-In Offer for Book Collector users - CLZ Books Web - 1 for Book, but counts for Music and Movie etc. too), your license for the old Windows software will be disabled - that is only if you use the Trade-in offer.
If you just want to start using the Web version, you can just sign up for it and subscribe through https://shop.clz.com/login
You can just use sync with CLZ Cloud in your Windows program, and all data will immediately be in CLZ Web. And then you can just start using the web version! No need to consolidate files on your old computer.
Done!
As for the files on the old computer:
You can also just “let them sit wherever they are” if everything is working now. There’s no real option in the software to “grab all files and send them to one single location” - and if things got messed up in the past, it’s difficult to be absolutely sure if you have everything.
But: if you want to clean it up you should do this:
Under Tools > Options > Folders you can set where the program should send any images for new items you add. Those should be pointing to the folders you want to use, all of those in the Folder settings area.
Later, close program.
Then go to the folder location that you do not want to use anymore, and in there grab the Images folder and Thumbnails folder. Move those (not copy) to the destination folder you want to keep using. It should merge with your existing images/thumbnails folder in there.
Then start program. Then go to Tools > Maintenance > Update File Links and run it. Use AUTOMATIC. Let it search for missing images and it should link them back up with your data again. This process can take LONG, and it will look like the program is not responding. No worries, it will finish.
I sincerely apologize. I have not spent much time on Club CLZ. This is because I have been able to solve my problems using the manuals. I mistakenly thought that the “A” was Alwin. YOU deserve all the credit!
