Just moved from Readerware to CLZ and have a few questions. But first, many thanks to the CLZ team for creating an excellent product and also making migration from Readerware so straightforward.
I have noticed that the core collection includes inconsistencies in how authors may be designated. For example, I have several Tolkien books and some get sorted as “J.R.R. Tolkien” while others are “JRR Tolkien”; similarly several books by Eamon Duffy may be included in the core as either “Professor Eamon Duffy” or as “Eamon Duffy”. Two questions. First, I am happy to submit corrections to the core if that is desirable from the CLZ team’s point of view; second, if that is desirable, do we have suggested “rules”, e.g., do not include titles such as Professor, always use periods after initials, etc ? This also raises the question as to whether all books linked to the core will have any local changes always overwritten for those fields that are in a core collection entry or is there a mechanism to maintain a change in such a field just for the “local” collection of an individual user ?
Is there a mechanism for including diacritical marks (e.g., cedilla, umlaut) for letters for languages that use them ?
The “Language” field appears to only accept a single language, excluding relevant information about parallel text / bilingual books. Would it be possible to make this like “author” which will accept several authors ?
I have no rule book to share for you. While we do clean up this kind of data often, this will happen with the millions and millions of books in the world.
My recommendation would be to just use Manage Pick Lists in your own collection, and merge your JRR Tolkien books to whichever way of spelling you prefer. Same goes for Professor, or using periods after initials, etc.
First priority should always be your collection and the way you want it.
Feel free to submit corrections using the 3 dots button above the book details, then click “Submit to Core” and we’ll happily process fixes of course. But again: Your collection is most important. We’ll worry about Core
No, your data once added to your collection is yours, and does not change, unless you use “Update from Core” and “replace” certain fields.
You can just use your keyboard to enter them, we do not have an onscreen keyboard if that is what you’re asking here?
Indeed, language only accepts one. If you need multiple languages you might want to consider creating your own Custom Field (menu top left, Manage Custom Fields), and make a multi-value pick list - and just call it My Languages or something like that.
You can then enter multiple languages in your own language field.
I’m afraid it’s currently not planned to expand our language field into a multi select one - but I have your request noted.
