Cover Uploads

Good morning.

Is there a recommended size for cover uploads? And, is there a better format, i.e. jpg, png, etc.?

Thanks.

I’m following your topic. If I recall from an earlier conversation (though I can’t find it) CLZ automatically resizes large images, though I’m not trusting my memory much these days. LOL.

As an aside, it has been my personal practice to either find or create larger/higher res scans than the 420x420 cover images that auto-populate the cover fields from Core in the MuC version. These larger images are stored locally and conform to my own naming preference. For me it speaks to both my love of the organization and access of the excellent CLZ platform AND my love for cover art/images and legible liner or booklet notes – without having to get up, go downstairs, and find the album/disc. LOL.

Thanks for your reply. I, too, haven’t found the spot where it mentions resizing.

I’m in the process of moving over from the desktop version the the web version. I keep my desktop sizes pretty large and I’d like them to stay as large as I can have them. Plus, which format is the way to go? JPG vs. PNG?

It’s not a huge thing but I am kinda particular. I’ve been a fan of CLZ for almost 30 years and I love their software, as you do.

I’ve spent about two hours on this now. Sometimes it resizes down to 1500x1500, sometimes it doesn’t. Therefore I’d say that the above resolution is the sweet spot, and PNG for quality.

Now I need a drink.

LOL, MV!!!

VB, I keep all of my original scans/files as png to keep them “lossless” (to borrow the audio term). However, when I am posting online I convert to jpg. I do freelance graphic and website design, so live in the dual world of tif/png for graphic design (larger files but keeps the quality) and jpg for most website projects. Websites perform better and load faster with the smaller (i.e. compressed) jpg format. Lots of exceptions to those broad brushstrokes, but when it comes to my album/disc covers and notes, I keep png format on local drive.

I will be interested to hear if MuC or CLZ does any automatic conversion to jpg, resizing, and/or resolution adjustments. I appreciate MercuryVapor’s beverage-inducing sleuthing – did you see any image files other than jpg?

Voicerboy, I know it will be a PM conversation, but I am still eager to chat more with you about your vast collection of organ works. I am a lover of the instrument(s), but I ow to you as my collection of organ-specific titles in likely less than 100. Teach me, Obe-wan.

Assuming you are referring to the image file size for submitting to Core, we recommend keeping the resolution under 1000x1000 pixels and the file size under 500kb.

That is more than enough for a nice high quality image for usage in the software.

Yes, @CLZ_Alwin, that’s what I was looking for.

Thank you.
