Difference between adding by Title or by barcode

Good day,

I wonder why there is a difference in the search result when I add a movie using it’s title or it’s barcode.

For illustration, when I add the german DVD “Der lange Weg” (The long walk home - 1996) with the barcode 4260689091287:

  1. using the barcode search, the result points directly to the entry (Movie ID 35492, MediaID 1409120) with the correct movie and barcode.

  2. using the title search, I can select the correct Movie (MovieID 35492) but there is no movie entry that I could select with the barcode 4260689091287 (also there are 5 other DVD barcodes entries displayed beside the Default entry). So in this case, all I can do is select the Default entry which leaves the MediaID blank.

It makes no difference if I switch my Core language from German to English back and forth or If I search for “The long Walk home” instead of “Der lange Weg”.

Why is the entry with barcode 4260689091287 not shown when I search by title (I could also observe this behaviour with other movies I own) ?

The same question applies if I unlink this movie and then try to link it again: I can than no longer link it to the same barcode entry because there is no such item shown, and my MediaID ends up not being the same anymore.

That barcode does not have an image in our Core online database.

We do not show media entries without an image in the title search.

If you have a barcode, we recommend searching by barcode of course.

If you unlink a movie, but it has a barcode entered in it, then on relinking it should find it automatically by the barcode field.

That explains a lot, thank you. Is there any possibility to contribute images to the Core Database? I have a large collection and over the years scanned every cover Front and Back.

Thank you for your willingness to submit. You can click a movie where you added your own cover, and at the top click the “3 dots icon” and click “Submit to Core” and the content team will get your cover in!

You can always post in our “Core | Errors” forum here about submissions etc. as well of course.
