At CLZ, we are constantly working to improve the quality and completeness of our Core online game database, based on feedback from our users.
A common complaint from users of our game apps has been about not always getting the correct cover image when adding games by barcode. The problem varied from not getting the exact cover for your limited/collector’s edition, or a getting the cover for the wrong regional release (mostly visible by the rating symbol), or just bad images in general, like slanted covers, tiny images, fuzzy images, bad user photos or scans etc…
So we decided to finally resolve this problem.
First, our web-developers created an efficient Cover Check tool for checking and easily replacing the cover images for game editions. With several ways to “attack” the problem, by popularity, by recency, by platform, etc…
Then we started using the new Cover Check tool to fix the game cover images, first with our in-house content managers, then later allowing “outside” helpers on the tool too.
Currently fifteen enthusiast CLZ users are helping with this project!
By now, some game platforms have been completed (all covers checked), including recent consoles like Switch, PS5, Series X, Wii U, but also lots of retro platforms (NES, SNES, N64, Sega Master System, Genesis/Megadrive, 3DS, etc…).
Also, we have corrected the most popular releases on other platforms.
Currently, we are working on our way through the rest of the big consoles, PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox, Wii, PSP, Vita, etc…) The 15 CLZ users who are helping enjoy doing their “own consoles”, that is, the ones they collect for, so that they can use their knowledge of that platform.
With so many games still to go, we are still looking for people who would like to contribute to this cover check tool.
