In Music Mobile, when headers are part of the track list (and I use headers a lot), I’d like to see the actual duration for each header’s portion of the track list displayed in each header, instead of the current, unvarying 0:00.
In addition to displaying the actual duration in each header, headers should also include something that CLZ already provides for individual tracks: the ability to manually enter or modify the duration, should it become necessary.
The reason for the last part of this request is that I have, on rare occasions, had to build a catalog entry from scratch because the album or the box set I had bought wasn’t in Core. Back in the days when I was using the Windows desktop software, I could scan the disc(s) and have a rock-solid base to build the catalog entry on, and which already included track lengths. With the Web software or the Mobile software, I can’t do that. Every bit of data has to be entered by hand. And in my mind, durations are essential. And if I later discover that I had mistyped one of them, I’d like to be able to correct it.
We would probably be able to easily add a total runtime for a header, for all tracks that are inside it.
Would that be a good one for now? Easy to implement I think.
Adding a way to be able to edit the length of the header would mean a new field to be added to the mobile and web app, that is a much bigger feature (and we could add it to our to-do list for when we do another round of new fields for Music - which was just done in the last 2 months, so that might be a bit far away still).
Lastly: editing the duration of the header might be difficult if it also generates a total based on the tracks inside (you’d probably need a control to reset it to calculate a total, so the interface could be a bit clogged if we’d allow that).
Thank you for your quick response, which clarified my own thoughts about this request. If the total in the appropriate header updates automatically after a track length is edited, there’s no need for a separate, manual editing function in the header. If that recalculation doesn’t happen until the next time the record for a particular CD is opened, I’m OK with that.
So we noticed that we actually already have the header length calculation (in details panel of the album), but that for some, and in your case most, it was not calculated, and therefor not shown.
This is now fixed, can you take another look and let me know?
Thanks for the update. I did a quick spot check on the fix and got inconsistent results.
On the Classical tab under performer David Zinman, totals are displayed in the headers for the Barber Cello Concerto disc (bar code 07464449002), but not for the Beethoven Symphonies below it (sample bar code 74321496526).
My first thought was that this inconsistency might be related to the fact that the Beethoven discs are part of a box set and the Barber disc is not.
But then I switched to the Popular tab and looked at the stand-alone disc by Burning Spear for the albums “Marcus Garvey • Garvey’s Ghost” (bar code 016253937727). No totals in the headers. So scratch that guess off the list.
If you edit that album, (the Marcus Garvey one for instance) you see that your tracks are just loose tracks on the same level as the header.
The tracks need to be “inside the header”
This is a one-by-one job per track. You can simply edit the album on CLZ Music Web then drag the tracks one by one on the header to put them “inside the header”. The length count should be good after that.
Tip: on CLZ Music MOBILE you can go to the track list, then checkbox multiple tracks, then tap the 3-dotted button and hit “move to header” to get them in a header in one go. Saves a bit of time I think.
