As I know now tracks are excluded from an export of the Music Connect database. I can’t figure out why. Any database would have the ability to print or export all data in it. So in Music Connect one would expect to be able to export all medium-titles (CD, LP, EP, or whatever) including all tracks belonging to every database entry. At least I was expecting that and now I discover I’m not the only one.
So it’s quite disappointing to read in some posts this is and will not be possible. I wonder why. Every respectable database should be able to export all data.
In another post I read it is possible to export trackinfo via an xml-export. Is there somebody who can enlighten me on how to deal with the xml-export? In the browser I can scroll down the xml-file to see all info on the medium and the tracks on it, but I can’t find out how to deal with it. If I want to open this file in LibreOffice Calc (just as in MS Excel), I cannot find the correct field-divider, so how to import this in the spreadsheet? If there is an answer to this I can achieve what I want, although my remark still stands: it should be possible from within the web-based app itself.
I think if there is just one to ask, there will be (a lot) more who doesn’t speak out.
But as you noticed: there are a few who asked for this, so there is a wish for.
First I want to be able to search for a track-title to look for any artist who performed it. Although I didn’t find it already, I do not exclude the possibility there is a way.
Likewise, I’d like to have a hardcopy of my database in which I can look up if a certain track is on a certain album without have to start my computer.
I think all information put into a database should be enabled to pull out in any way: search, hardcopy or export. The user is the sole expert to know if it’s handy. If you cannot extract data, there’s really no need to put it in.
Even in the Main screen of CLZ Music I cannot select titles in any combination to sort on. I can sort on artist, or artist/release etc., but there is no sorting on title in any combination. Strange! It should be possible to sort on artist/albumtitle and tracktitle/artist, or tracktitle/artist/albumtitle (or any database fields). Track-titles are as important as album titles in my opinion.
To be short: the fact you left the door open for whether or not building this feature, means in my view you are still hesitating. Stop it and start building. You’ll make a lot of users happy.
Hi,
As I have already written in another post, there is a way to create a tracks list that I use.
Export to XLM
Download
Move the file to Desktop
Open Excel
Select the “developer tab” and then “import”
Double-click the file
Change the name of the headers for the columns you want to save, for example: display name = Artist title = Album displayname2 = Format displayname3 = Label labelnumber = Labelnumber displayname6 = Year index = Index Index13 = Track no displayname14 = TrackArtist title 15 = Track title 16 = Disc Title
Delete all the other columns
Delete all the rows that are empty in the Track column
But it will give you an “album list of results” - because a “track view” has never been created. This would probably be higher on the request list actually - but it is quite a big one to create. It might be built in the future. This will make a lot of users happy.
You posted in the Music Connect formums. CLZ Music is our mobile app. I’m still assuming you’re using Music Connect though.
Sorting is the order in which things appear from top to bottom in a list.
Foldergrouping is grouping albums by a certain field
Sorting by Artist, then Album title, is possible. Just click on the A-Z sort button, then create your own sort settings with multiple fields. You can choose artist as the first sort field, then title as the next.
Tracks are not part of this because we never had a track view on Music Connect. If we do create that, then of course track fields will be part of the track view’s sorting screen.
I hope that @Jowi s suggestion will help you out in the export of the tracks.
In the last month or 2 we’ve seen 1 or 2 requests for this. Before that, in 25 years of creating this software it has never been a big suggestion/request. Again I’m not saying we will never build it, and I understand that for you it is a big one, you really want this feature, but I do feel we have a better overview of what is more important to work on for Music Connect.
We do feel a track view, and way to export tracks would be a great addition to Music Connect, don’t get us wrong.
@CLZ_AJ: Indeed I still work with CLZ Connect. Thanks for the explanation. Yes it is big for me and as I pointed out: I think everything what’s going in a database should be able to be extracted or exported in any way. And you give me hope that someday…
@Jowi: Thanks for this ‘manual’ on exporting tracks. I’m going to experiment with it. No doubt it will work, but still I could do something wrong. So in that case I’ll probably will get back to you…
