I would love to have a “now playing” function within the music app.
What i am looking for is an easy, low maintenance way to keep track in the app of what is currently in my various media types - which discs are in my multi-disc player, what vinyl is on my player, which cassette is in the player, etc.
If I could just select the albums from my collection and somehow mark them as “now playing” and then be able to see that grouping of albums, I would be extremely happy. A big bonus would be if I could also assign disc placement for my multi-disc player, but I know that is a big ask and not logistically likely with a database like this.
I have tried using tags to accomplish “now playing” but needing to go in and edit the albums each time I switch something is pretty tedious. If anyone has a more streamline way to accomplish this goal using current functionality, please let me know.
Well, custom fields are coming to mobile as well, so you could create your own field for this - however that still means you have to edit the album and change this field in your edit screen.
Come to think of it, if I would edit an album for this, I would use the Location field, because the location of the vinyl would be on the player
So whatever field there would be for this: it would always need to tap the album, and edit it, find the field, and modify it, and save it.
The only field you can edit “on the fly” is Collection Status: just tap on the collection status icon in the details panel of an album, and change it.
Perhaps you can make yourself “learn” that “For Sale” means it’s on your vinyl player and go with that.
I will keep an eye out in this topic if anyone else is looking for a feature like this as I’ve not heard this suggestion before. Do you have many audio players?
It seems like using the collection status “for sale” might be the easiest work around that has been figured out so far, so I will play around with trying that for awhile. Thanks for that suggestion.
Regarding your question about # of players, my current setup is a turntable, a 5 disc CD player, a cassette player, and a blue tooth adapter connecting my receiver with a tablet. I use the tablet to access & play my digital music through my physical stereo system. I also have the clz app on the tablet so my family & friends can easily look through my entire catalog of all music media types to select what they want to listen too.
Maybe in a future release a new category of collection status “now playing” could be added. But that also leads to the desire to be able to assign more than 1 status at a time as in reality the album would be “in collection” and “now playing” at the same time.
