First let me say - after a year and half of using CLZ Comics I can truly say I LOVE it! It is fun and practical to use and the team behind it is fantastic! I have a feature request that I think would enhance things even more - adding the ability to search more than just series titles, both in the “Add New Comics” dialog and in the main product where you can search your own comics. Why? Because in some cases the series title is totally different than the ISSUE title, when the series title is actually a ‘catch all’ title for a collection of single issues. For example: I can search for “Peanuts” and get results like this:
Advanced filtering where you could specify which fields to search for (using the search top right(!)) is on the ideas list. Even maybe a screen where you could say “NOT” for certain fields.
The search you show in your screenshot is actually a hard text filter. To just show items that have exactly that word, or words in that exact order, based on the folder list below.
If you change your folder list to say “Location” then the search can only filter down on whatever names you have as location.
The 2000 you’re typing, where is that “2000” in the series title? Or is it somewhere else?
I’d be very hesitant to change that “simple filter on words for that specific field you’re foldering on” to also include other fields.
If you folder on “Location”, and you would type “Peanuts” it would be weird if it somehow "filters your location folders on Peanuts, right?
Hi @CLZ_AJ ! Peanuts 2000 is one of the book titles under “Peanuts Books” (see below). The book title shows up in the “Title” field, but it doesn’t look like Title is one of the fields you can filter by [unless I missed it]. Anyway, this image may give you a better idea of what I’m driving at. Entering one of these book titles returns no results in search or filtering. I realize this isn’t the PRIMARY situation people run across but since some book series are grouped it might be a helpful feature.
I’m afraid the folder panel will stay on a pure “filter on exactly the field you’re foldering on”.
Adding specific extra fields to the search top right might happen though, so you could for instance use a dropdown button there and say “make it search on titles” or “include the issue title field as search option”.
Nice! That would be cool. Regarding the other aspect of this, searching for a title to add is a similar situation as seen below. A search for “Peanuts” returns a ton of books - and you can see I’ve highlighted that “Peanuts 2000” for example is there under “Peanuts Books”. But if you search specifically for “Peanuts 2000” you get no results. Of course this is true for Far Side books or any other strip collection. Not a huge deal but I wonder if there’s a way to somehow highlight the group title (“Peanuts Books” in this case) and the sub-title within it that matches the search.
Thanks! That’s just a random example I picked out. The main REASON for it is this: when I searched for many of my Peanuts/Far Side/Drabble/other comic strip collection books, I couldn’t find them by name of course. I eventually discovered the ‘catchall’ titles like Far Side Books, Peanuts Books, etc. However, it’s not consistent. There are a couple of different ‘titles’ for Peanuts Books [for example Peanuts (Fawcett), Peanuts Books, Charlie Brown TP, etc). I stumbled across most of my books after discovering these. Not a huge deal, just a thought for possible future improvements. Perhaps a better way would be standardizing some of these groupings - using Peanuts as an example it could be Peanuts Books (Fawcett), Peanuts Books (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston), Peanuts Books (Peanuts Parade), etc. That would at least line them all up in one place. Same with Far Side, etc. Anyway, just an idea!
I see. If you wish we could look into standardizing Series titles in Core, but we also have the power to give them “alternative titles” that if you type them, will find the actual series as the name it uses right now in Core.
Makes sense. Of course in the case of these catch-all groupings, there isn’t an actual series title. For the record I like having these similar type books grouped together, my only wish is that it would be a little more consistent in the naming scheme. For an example of how it looks now, here’s what a search for “Far Side” turns up.
To me the ideal would be streamline the groupings to make them consistent. The best alternative would be to do away with all groupings and just have each book individually listed.
