Would it be possible to expand the “Rating” options? When adding a new item, you only get the option of specifying an ESRB and/or a PEGI rating (there are two different drop-downs). It would be nice if it had a Region and then would select the correct ratings. I believe that when you are updating an existing entry, it might have a third Ratings dropdown that covers more options, (and there you can add, e.g., CERO ratings).
Oh, and on a related topic, the PEGI dropdown doesn’t have PEGI ratings in it (e.g., PEGI has a “7”, but the dropdown only has a “7+”, which is a different region rating).
Also, in general, why does the webpage have different elements for updating an existing item versus when adding a new item? As another example of that, when updating an existing item, you can add a back cover image, but for new entries you can only add a front cover.
The area that contains the PEGI and ESRB rating are for our “game level” submissions.
In Core, we have a game, that will have a “general” PEGI and ESBR rating. Under games we have “barcode entries” - those are the editions from all kinds of different countries. For those, we accept all those other ratings systems.
So what you want to do is when you add a game, to try and add by barcode, so you have your exact version.
Later, if you wish to submit fixes to us, do so with a barcode, you will get the option to pick any rating from our Core (scroll down to the EDITION area, and THERE you can pick any rating to submit to us.
If you submit just a “game” (so no edition), then you can indeed submit a front cover. Back covers can only be submitted if they’re part of an edition.
All these “edition specific” fields will only show up if you actually submit an edition.
Thank you for the response, but I still have a few questions.
As background, here is my general process. I get a new game and scan the barcode to add it to the app. Sometimes, the game is not in the core database, so I get the “barcode not found” message and I enter the title. Then, typically, I get the “Not found? Add this game manually…” message. I click on the “+” and I enter in the additional various pieces of information (title (since that disappears when you add a new game), barcode [is already populated], platform, format, edition (if relevant), region, series (if relevant), audience rating, genres, developers, publisher, description, and front cover), and click “add.” Then I selection “Action” and “Submit to Core.”
So I think I am doing what you are suggesting, and adding it by barcode. So I think this process should be creating both a “game level” entry as well as an “edition,” but it seems that the form for adding a game not in core only creates a “game level” entry at first, as opposed to creating both, is that correct? Since all of the information exists in the entry that I am submitting, would it be possible to modify the form so that both can be created at the same time?
And, either way, is it possible to fix the entries in the PEGI dropdown for the “game level” submissions?
For Pegi on game level we’ve talked about it and for now are deciding to keep it the way it is. The 7 without the + is there for the edition level though.
As for the barcode not being in Core and adding it that way, indeed it should allow you to submit as an edition. I will look into that next week and get back to you on that!
@MaazFench I can confirm that this is indeed not working as we intended.
When you have an unrecognized barcode, and you then search for a game, and select it from Core, then everything will work out.
However if you can’t find your game with us, and you have to add it by title manually, and THEN submit, then the system will think you are submitting a new game to our Core, and it will omit the barcode and media details (which is when you get the game level submission, without a backcover and barcode field (and all the audience ratings)).
I’ve taken note to get this fixed, but this is a project that is a bit bigger than just switching something on
My apologies for this inconvenience.
A workaround, for now, would be to post on this forum here and ask us to add the title for you. Then you can add it, and when submitting fixes, it will popup the media submission page with barcode, back cover etc.!
