Feature Suggestion - more for Storage Box

When I get my big batch of new comics each month, filing them in their Storage Box is a bit of a drag. I want them in there, but all of the clicking drives me nuts.

Suggestion: Two fields for Storage Box - one for like “Name”, and another for Description. Both are searchable. So I can give the box a brief name, but then the description can contain keywords for all series that might need to go there.

Advanced: Ability to map a series to a storage box. So whenever I get a new issue of a particular series, it automatically changes the Storage Box field to the mapped Storage Box.

I’ve taken note of your suggestions to have a description field for Storage Box.
Mapping I’m not too sure about, but noted.

When you add them, have you tried enabling “pre-fill” and only use Storage Box there?
(menu top left, then Pre-fill Settings, then add Storage Box (remove other fields) and enable the Pre-fill screen to always show in Add Screen).

That way during adding you will be prompted which Storage Box should be filled in for each comic you add (and it remembers your choice from the last Add, so if you’re adding them to one box, you only fill this in once and go).

So if I am using the barcode scanner, this would happen at that point where I click the final button for all of the scanned comics to get added? Each one would stop and ask? I can give that a try. I do have other pre-fill fields already being used, if that matters, but don’t have it turned on to ask every time.

If you scan 10 barcodes, then add, and have pre-fill open, the Storage Box you fill in will be set for all 10 barcodes.

It will only ask once per time you click on Add to Collection.

I recommend indeed just playing with it, test it with like 2 or 3 comics.

I’m afraid this sounds like even more clicks (including switching from phone to mouse/keyboard and back a lot) so might not be helpful. But hopefully adding keyword feature to make it easier to narrow down to the right box would help.

If you switch on Pre-fill and have the storage box with it. it’s just

  • Find your comics like you normally do,
  • press “Add to Collection”
  • click the dropdown of the Storage Box and select your Storage Box
  • Click add

Done.

I recommend to just try this!

I’m not sure I follow this, can you elaborate?

Sure. I have 180 boxes and buy about 90 books at a time.

Currently the process is:
Hold phone in one hand, move books around with other.
Scan all books
Put down phone, move hand to mouse to click box to add all to collection
When that’s done, open edit for first book, click drop-down for box (or type in words to narrow down box name), select box
Click button to go to next book.
Repeat just these last couple of steps 90 times.

New procedure would be:
Start with phone in hand and other hand to move books.
Scan one book.
Put down phone, move hand to mouse to click box to add one book to collection
When Pre-Fill box opens, click drop-down or search for box, select box, hit OK.
Pick phone back up, scan next book
(repeat entire process 90 times)

This new method might work if I had 10-15 books all going in the same box but it doesn’t work like that for me. At most I might have 2-3 if it was a double-ship month and/or some titles happen to be close together.

I think it would be:

  1. Start with phone in hand and other hand to move books.
  2. Scan all books
  3. Put down phone, move hand to mouse to click 1 comic, then click Add.
  4. When Pre-Fill box opens, click drop-down or search for box, select box, hit OK.

Repeat steps 3-4 until done.

Having a description field per storage box would, for your use case, help you find the storage box quicker, I understand that now too.

Mapping a series to a storage box might become very confusing, what if the physical storage box is full? What if you forget about the mapping and it feels like it randomly puts it in a storage box? (I’m sure we can fix these problems)

Another method could be to use CLZ Comics Mobile app where you would hold the phone in one hand, scan, add, choose storage box from pre-fill, add.
Then do the next one. All on phone. Then at the end, sync with CLZ Cloud and they will be in CLZ Comics Web for you, in the right storage box.

In any case, I’ve taken note of your use case here. Thank you for explaining.

Aha, I think I forgot there’s an individual add button for each scanned book, I thought you always had to just click the one at the bottom to do them all at once.

I only fill each box about 70% - if the box was getting full, I will have adjusted all of these settings already, having moved some books around.

There could be a “I’m about to put this book in this box, is that OK?” before completion - it would be a click but at least it would already have selected the box.

Will think about the phone app version.
