I have a question for classical music collectors/cataloguers. Which field do you use for chamber ensembles such as string quartet groups or piano trio groups? I’ve been using “Orchestra”, but it doesn’t seem appropriate somehow for such small groups. I’m wondering whether Musician might be a better field, or should that field be used for individual musicians only? I’ve always felt that the classical tab needs an additional field for “(Chamber) Ensemble”, which would be useful for small instrumental groups that aren’t “orchestras”. Or am I being too picky? Any suggestions welcomed, thanks!
My usual approach for chamber music ensembles is to put the group’s name on the Main tab under Artist and then to list the group’s individual members on the People tab under Musicians.
Thanks Wwbetts .After posting the above, I remembered about the ‘custom fields’ functionality that is being added to the CLZ web products next year. I could create my own field called ‘Chamber ensembles’ as well as following your suggestion of adding individual members to the ‘Musician’ field – this would be especially useful when individuals perform in more than one group.
