What is the best way to scan or take a picture of a foil cover for submission so as to not get glare or blackout?
Don’t use the flash on your phone or camera and adjust the posed angle of the comic based on your light source to get the best possible reflection angle. Try not to have multiple light sources (like a room with several lights all around it). Ideally you have the light source somewhere above you and between the camera and comic. Having a single light source makes it a lot easier to manipulate the angle and reduce both glare and shadows. You can often get some cool rainbowing effects if done right.
I often find that stepping a bit back and using a slight zoom helps as well, at least on my phone. This helps reduce catching your own shadow in the shot as you can be further away from the object, but also zooming in reduces brightness a bit so that can help with glare as well.
What @MetalChris said!
It doesn’t have to be straight on as that often doesn’t work with foils. Can be at a slight angle to reduce glare and a black shadow of the phone on the book. I can always straighten the image with some photoshop magic ![]()
Thank you both, I will give it a try and see how it goes.
