I’ve noticed that many foreign films that have English titles are not listed in English, even if the barcode is for an English version.
For example:
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (043396475380) clearly has the English title on the cover, but in the database, it is listed as Wo hu cang long.
I literally cannot search for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I have to know what the Chinese name of the film is to find it.
Likewise, all of the Man With No Name films by Sergio Leone are in Italian, even though the films are in English with English language titles on the boxes.
It is very frustrating because I need to know the titles in multiple languages to find anything.
It is not only with “Foreign titles” as in English vs non English. The same applies for titles which do get a different name in a particular country. For example the movie Tomorrowland (8717418468880). Because Tomorrowland is has a Trademark (or something like that) in the Netherlands, they cannot use that name here. Over here the name is Project T. Both a title written in English.
I also experience this regularly. My solution is to Fill in the Original Title field:
In most cases I put the name that is on the Cover in the title field. Put the Original movie name in Original Title and I also add the original title with an a.k.a. in the Title. The desktop version only searches on Title (when you did not select search on All Fields). So I have to put the original title also in the Title to make it searchable.
I tried it also in the Web version and it looks like it only searches within the Title field, not Original Title field.
We fixed this problem a few months ago, so these movies can now be found under the English title. I think you added these movies to your database before the fix.
It can sometimes happen that there is no English title available, in these cases it is best to report the barcode to us and we will update the title for you. (The other way around is also possible, we can change the title per edition in the language of the product)
Does this mean we can also submit corrected titles when submitting to core? I was always under the impression those submits were ignored because they are in the Movie section instead of the Edition section.
No, I’d rather not have it as a submission. We’d rather have these specific reports in the “Error reports” here in ClubCLZ.
On the other hand, it’s not necessary to look up everything and report it. If you have already adjusted them yourself and they are in your database with the correct title, I would leave it as it is.
