Hello, I am in the middel of a real labyrinth of your applications. I have downloaded the free trial of CLZ movies, but after all that is wrong. This is for my telephone, but I need an application for my PC to replace DVD Profile. That is Movie collector.
I have installed the XML file from DVD Profile and get the movies in the application, but that is not what I want. I miss specific fields like location and slot.
It is a pity I have to spend a whole afternoon to discover how everything works. To give an example: if I click this: register for a free trial in the “movie collector for windows” I get a not found error.
Can you please help me before I spend too much time for nothing.
The desktop software is not available for new customers if I am not mistaken. And it will not be updated anymore with new features.
So if you are new you have to use the Web application. It works great and has more features compared to Desktop. It also misses some features compared to desktop. Overall Web is better.
what are the features it has compared to the desktop.
I am currently using both to get what I want like auto links and such the web version only does a imdb link
I do like that the webversion is available anywhere you can use a browser though. Wondering if I am missing something the web version does that the desktop version can’t.
the ability to add 5 custom images (compared to ‘2’ in the desktop app)
multi select for the HDR field (using this in web and still using the desktop app: loss of data)
watch history, so you can store more than 1 watch date (using this in web and still using the desktop app: loss of data?)
Higher resolution images from Core
gets new features, desktop won’t get any new features
web is much faster and is way more polished
Desktop has:
Advanced filtering
Faster exports
More features around episodes and episodes per disc
Better support when using the keyboard to enter information
Available when you have no internet connection. I think I am going to build a desktop viewer somewhere in the future for Web backups, so you can at least view your data when internet is down or services are down.
I am 100% sure this list is not complete. But from my experience this are currently the main differences.
For a long time I was also using the Desktop application. A while ago the Custom Fields arrived in the Web app, I switched and ditched the old desktop app. Even with still some missing features it is much more pleasant to use.
