I have both the desktop edition and the mobile edition.
In my author pick list I have a messy history where sometimes the display name and sort name are identical, versus others where the sort name is “surname, first name” and the display name is “firstname surname”.
I want to update all of the display names to be the latter format, but I do not want to use the tedious method of opening the author pick list and changing things one author at a time. I instead wish to essentially export the author pick list as plain text, edit it externally using regex global replace features, and re-import it.
It appears to me the mobile app cannot export nor import the author pick list, and the desktop app doesn’t appear to have the option to export the author sort name field (it has solely an “Author” field in the export choices, which exports the display name format).
Any advice?
exporting stuff, then changing, then importing, will never work, none of our software is build to make changes externally and import them back in.
Importing always adds to your collection.

In the desktop version, if you go to menu Edit > Manage pick list, you can go to author list and right click an author and click Generate display/sort name - that MIGHT do the trick. Try it with one or two if you like the results, then see if that works for multiple.
Otherwise you might have to go by them 1 by 1 indeed.
Thanks. Yesterday I did a few sessions and updated my 555 author’s pick list to be entirely in the format I wanted for both sort name and display name, and I changed all solid uppercase to be mixed case as I wish.
I synchronized my desktop app yesterday and everything looks great within the desktop app.
However, in the mobile app today, and in the Tsnyder's books » CLZ Cloud for Books view, The authors of the books do not reflect all of the changes I’ve made. Many of them are still in solid uppercase, etc.
Is there something else I need to do to make my desktop app author pick list fully replicate to the mobile app, and the cloud view of my books?
I recommend doing this:
FIRST: make absolutely sure you have your latest data in your desktop software. Then continue with these steps:
Desktop computer
- Go to menu CLZ Cloud > Synchronize
- Click the “Clear CLZ Cloud” button bottom left and confirm.
- Now sync with CLZ Cloud to upload all your data to the CLZ Cloud again.
Mobile app
4. On any mobile devices where you use our CLZ mobile app:
- Tap the menu top left and tap MAINTENANCE, then use Clear Database,
- Then choose Sync with CLZ Cloud to download a fresh copy of your data from the CLZ Cloud.
