Regarding the import a text file function: I am finding that if a barcode matches multiple series, the system will link the record to one of the series, which can be the wrong series choice. It is difficult for me to find the instances where this error has happened. Do you have any suggestions for best method?
Do you think it would be better if the system did not link the record if there are multiple barcode matches? Then all records will be in the None Series folder and I would not need to search my data for records to fix. Or is there a workaround you can suggest?
As an example, for barcode 75960620002300111, the system linked to “Razorline” instead of “King In Black: Return Of The Valkyries”.
I think this should be really really rare.
In fact, this should not happen at all. Did the publisher make an error here?
I suppose you could call it rare. I imported 11,000 records and I have found around 5 instances so far. This is what makes it so difficult to find the errors. I can’t explain why different publishers would use the same barcode.
I forgot to mention that it is common for multiple matches with news stand barcodes. These will match the correct series but the barcode does not identify the issue number, so the system links it to the wrong issue number most of the time.
Could also be just errors in our Core database.
In general it is very unlikely for a barcode to be re-used in different series.
Yes, that is more common. In a certain era, some publishers tended to use the same barcodes every year.
In general, I agree that it would be better to leave the issue unlinked in cases like that.
