I have been using Movie Collector on my PC to catalogue my movies and TV shows. I used to sync the data directly to the CLZ app but that stopped working a while ago and the only option is to sync with the cloud. The problem is that the cloud gets cast, crew and episode information from IMDb rather than syncing the data from my database. One example is the 1998 TV series “From the Earth to the Moon”. The cast and crew data is from the 1958 film and there are no episodes.
DVD releases of TV shows often have episodes listings that differ from what is on IMDb. The UK series ‘Grand Designs’ is one example. The DVD releases bear little resemblance to the episodes in each season on IMDb. Wouldn’t it be simpler to just allow cast and credits lists and episode lists to be synced from the Movie Collector database together with images and other data?
It is not possible to sync cast/credits or custom episodes from Movie Collector to CLZ Cloud.
It is likely that editing episode titles/adding/moving your own is coming to CLZ Movies Web and CLZ Movies Mobile.
We can update episodes, episode data from IMDb, so if something is wrong for a series we can update it from IMDb.
if it is wrong on IMDb, that is a different story.
I do agree it would be cool if we could work on being able to put the exact episodes for for instance “Volume” DVDs which just have a couple of episodes often, or a collection, and deliver that to the user, depending on which volume they have.
That is a good one indeed.
You said: “We can update episodes, episode data from IMDb, so if something is wrong for a series we can update it from IMDb. if it is wrong on IMDb, that is a different story.”
There is not always something wrong with the episodes of a TV season on IMDb. It is the DVDs that are not consistent with the broadcast seasons. The UK series of “Grand Designs” is a prime example.
The 1960s series “The Addams Family” is another problem case. On the DVDs that I own the 64 episodes of the two seasons are spread over 3 volumes. Volume 1 in the CLZ app has 34 episodes rather than the 22 that it should have. Volumes 2 & 3 are actually correct, which is odd if the episode data has to come from IMDb.
For me to have to go through my rather extensive collection to find movies or TV shows with wrong data and then report them to you for correction seems rather unfair.
There are also sometimes differences in DVD/Blu-ray releases between regions. The region 2 DVD of second series of the UK series “Vicious” includes the finale, which was aired some time (9 months, in fact) after the second series ended. It is also included, incorrectly, in series 2 in IMDb. In region 1 and region 4 the series 2 DVD included only the 6 episodes of that series. The finale was released on a stand-alone DVD.
The other issue I raised was in relation to the 1998 TV Series “From the Earth to the Moon”. CLZ has linked to the 1958 movie so the cast and credits are wrong and there are no episodes. Can that, at least, be fixed.
@dnorwood sorry I missed that bit about “From the Earth to the Moon”. That one has now been fixed. If you re-add it it should come up with the correct data.
As for the episodes being spread over volumes, that is indeed an issue, to which I would reply:
I do agree it would be cool if we could work on being able to put the exact episodes for for instance “Volume” DVDs which just have a couple of episodes often, or a collection, and deliver that to the user, depending on which volume they have.
That is not something we’re doing right now - so it would be useful if the user could do that themselves on the mobile app indeed.
