Is there a way to merge duplicates?

Hello!

My CLZ mobile app synced with my web app and now I have duplicate entries for some movies. Each duplicate has different information. What can I do to combine the two entries?

Cheers,
Charles

You can not merge duplicates, but this seems like your phone app should also already have had these?

Can you explain a bit more of your situation? Did you not sync for a long time? did you get any warnings? Do you use multiple devices?

Sure! I just started using the app this week. Previously, I used a Google Sheet to track my collection, including purchase dates and prices. After using the iPhone App, I started the CLZ Movies Web trial. At this point the mobile and web sync.

I wanted to add the purchase dates and price fields to the CLZ database. After doing a few manual entries on the web app, I decided to export a CSV file from the web and load it into Google Sheets so to easily transfer the desired data.

Here are the steps I took to get the duplicates.

  1. Scan all movie barcodes with the iPhone camera into the CLZ mobile app
  2. Start the CLZ web trial and sync collection
  3. Export the collection as a CSV file from the web app and load it into Google Sheets
  4. Fill data in the Purchase Date and Purchase Price fields, then export as CSV
  5. Make a Backup Copy of the CLZ web app database
  6. Clear the web database and upload the CSV file.
  7. Open the CLZ movies mobile app on my phone, the new data didn’t automatically sync, so I synced it. The mobile app uploaded all my old data to the web CLZ, making the duplicates.
  8. I just restored the backup file I made to the CLZ movies web app but have not synced it with my phone yet mobile app still shows the duplicates.

Here’s a screenshot of the CSV i edited to load back into CLZ Movies.

I understand you cleared your database, and uploaded a modified CSV file back into cloud.

I would not recommend doing it that way because importing it would see it as new entries. This would explain all those duplicates being synced back up.

If you are happy with your modified CSV right now, I recommend doing this:

On Web: If you’re happy with everything you have there (restoring the backup is what you did, right?) then continu to the MOBILE part below.

Or if you’re not happy with what you have on WEB right now, do this on WEB:

  • Clear web database again,
  • Import the CSV and verify all is good in Web.

Now, do this on MOBILE:

  1. Tap the top left side menu icon to open the side menu.
  2. Tap “Maintenance” and then tap “Clear Database”.
  3. Tap the top left side menu icon again to open the side menu.
  4. Tap “Sync with CLZ Cloud” and sync your entire collection from CLZ Cloud down to your mobile device.
