When I’m editing lengthy track titles on my iPad to fix a typo or adjust the capitalization to match my preferred style (“and”, not “And”, finicky stuff like that), I sometimes find find that I’m unable to edit the entire title. When I’m dragging the cursor toward the start of a long song title, it reaches a point where the cursor jumps back to its starting point at the end of the title instead of continuing toward the title’s beginning. And it consistently occurs at the same place in the title.
Obviously, I have two simple work-arounds. One is to delete the entire title and then oh-so-carefully re-enter it. The other is to go to my desktop computer (also a iOS machine) and do my edits in the Web version, which allows me to place the cursor anywhere I want in the song title. So this iPad glitch is an annoyance, not a big problem.
If you want an extreme test case, the box set of Doug Sahm & The Sir Douglas Quintet’s complete Mercury recordings contains the longest song title that I’ve ever seen. Bar code 0602498623022.
In a quick test, I got the technique you suggested to work, but it seems a bit too complex for such a basic editing task as using a stylus to drag the cursor through a paragraph of text. But that’s an Apple issue, not one for CLZ to worry about. I’m mildly curious as to why the cursor sometimes jumps back to the edit’s starting point in the Mobile app but not when I do the same thing with the same song title in the Music Web app. But not enough to unnecessarily prolong this discussion. Feel free to close this ticket, if you wish to do so.
I agree it’s a bit finnicky. I’ve know about it for years, using it in other apps too, and I’m always struggling with that interface in any other app.
Yeah we could investigate deeper into the original issue there, I’m not sure why that happens either, but I would want to see a video from your device, to see it happen. If you want to continue support on that, we can. Here’s how you can make a screen recording on your iOS device:
Go to Settings > Control Center, then tap + next to Screen Recording.
Open Control Center (swipe down), tap the “Record” button, then wait for the three-second countdown.
To stop recording, tap the red status bar at the top of the screen, then tap “Stop”.
