Is there a setting i’m missing to get music collector to recognize flac cover images? I have to add them manually (mp3’s are recognized fine). I am, for the most part, using jpg images. All files are tagged with Mp3Tag v3.27a. Thanks
Hm, not sure, we’ve changed something in the software like 4 years ago to start recognizing images that are inside FLAC files.
I think that MP3TAG is not doing something different, but our software scans images inside tags for flac files now instead of using the image placed next to the item in the folder.
That should likely work unless MP3TAG changed something there.
Maybe there are several places to tag images inside flacs like an album image versus a track image? (I don’t have MP3TAG here)
Okay, how does “placed next to them in the folder” work? or does it still work? Do i need to create a specific folder and place the image there? What is the name of the folder that MC looks for? ( i currently have the images in the same folder as the flac files).
thanks
For what it’s worth, from my experience MC doesn’t recognize the separate image file in the music folder. You need to edit the files and make sure the image is embedded in the FLAC files.
Understood. All my files have embedded artwork, i was just looking for a workaround, since the software doesn’t recognize flac tags. No worries, i’ll just continue to add them manually.
thanks for your help
Actually I apologize, I got it backwards. I just tried importing an album of FLAC files with embedded cover image and it didn’t work. But then I put an image file, folder.jpg, in the album folder and Collector picked it up. If I remember right, it doesn’t like tif files, but will load a jpg file. Not sure if it needs to be specifically named “cover” or “folder”, I always name mine “folder.jpg.”
Thanks antonmb,
i didn’t try “folders.jpg”, but i did try “cover.jpg”, both in a sub-folder (artwork) and with out a sub-folder. Cover.jpg worked when placed in the same folder as the flac files. Thanks, great tip, this should save me a lot of effort going forward. That said, would you happen to know how i might search out via MC the files with missing cover art or even all my flac files? with either, i can check to ensure that all my files display their cover art.
Cover.jpg or folder.jpg should work, but yes, the file needs to be in the album folder with the FLAC files for MC to associate it with that album.
Unfortunately I don’t know an easy way to identify albums without cover images, I would just use “no folders” view, add “cover image” to the column headers and scan for entries with no file showing.
Maybe there’s an easier way if one of the CLZ guys chimes in here.
Sorry I’m not sure what to answer, I’ve got some flac files here that we used way back when for testing, and importing those as music files for a new album will give me the image.
Are you on the latest version of Music Collector (albeit that is also quite old)?
Thanks everyone for your help. I’m using an older version of the software. I found a workaround, so i’m good to go.
thanks again
I should’ve asked which version you were on before replying Good to hear you found a workaround
