Merging large files

I hope this is not already covered - I have tried to find anybody reporting a similar issue:

I have two large databases which I want to merge in Music Collector (PC) using the Import from…Other database function. When I do so the resulting file cannot be saved: all I get is a message, “Error writing to file C\ etc… This is probably caused by a diskspace problem.” I have tried the Save as… suggestion with several different filenames with no luck.

I have been a huge fan of this software for many years now - this is the first time I have had any issues. In fact I am sure that I used to merge files in this way in my early days of using the program.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

The error can mean a problem with the HDD, or SSD. Bad sector. I’ve seen that before. We can try this:

Can you shut down the program, then, as a test, rename the Documents > Music Collector folder to

“Music Collector 2”

Now duplicate that folder (ctrl+c and then ctrl+v)

The folder that gets created, rename it to “Music Collector”

(so you now have Music Collector and Music Collector 2)

Now, reinstall the software from https://my.clz.com

Does it work now?

Many thanks for getting back to me. I have tried your suggestion but unfortunately with no change. I have no computer expertise but I wonder if the problem is with Windows - has one of the regular Microsoft updates inadvertently set a limit on file size? I am moving over to Windows 11 very soon so maybe the problem might disappear.

I will keep you posted. Thanks again for the feedback.

I’m not sure what else it could be other than some kind of bad sector on the drive - that would not be solved by updating the OS to Windows 11, unless your Windows 11 will be a totally new computer?
