Movie Collector - Apple iMac

Currently running Movie Collector on my iMac 20.2.2 under Ventura 13.7.3
(I did a complete reinstall thinking this was the problem)
However whilst it can update and sync uploads and download changes, when i ask it to check for any updates I get an error ‘Error retrieving update information, please try later’
There is no error number or anything, and it has full wired access to the internet (not using Wifi)
I can easily add any firewall changes to the Mac or Router if needed, but would need to know which ports or changes are needed.

Hi @ChrisK , indeed the update server can not be contacted anymore through the macOS program. No worries: there are no updates, and won’t be anymore either.

All development on the macOS editions of our software have already been stopped and removed from sale on Feb 1, 2021.

Latest version of Movie Collector macOS is v20.2.2 and can be obtained from your https://my.clz.com page when logged in (and if you actually own it of course).

Let me know if you have any further questions!

thats a real shame as whilst I know they never did any other apps for Mac (games etc) I do use my Movie one a lot on both PC and Mac.
What was the reason for the development to stop on the Mac Version?

We sent out a mass email to macOS user back in those days, here’s the information that was included in that email:

The number of subscribed Mac users has dropped below the level where it is financially feasible for us to keep maintaining the software, let alone develop it further

The quality of the Mac software has always been subpar, which has become worse in the past few years, especially compared to the well-designed and stable Web and mobile editions. At CLZ.com we want to deliver quality software only and the Mac edition did not fit that bill anymore.

The maintenance of the Mac software has proven to be a nightmare, with necessary compatibility fixes each time a new macOS arrives. in 2020 we had to spend 3 weeks of development just to make our software Big Sur compatible.

I can help you to go to CLZ Movies Web if you’re interested in that?

Thanks for the reply, I must have missed this email, I do get emails from CLZ, but I suspect it was filed in a folder and missed the info.
From your reply, also I think it was meant to say “it is no longer financially feasible” or not financially feasible.
It agree its a shame, but I also know that Mac updates and upgrades change so much with each new processor, and security. Even mine on my iMac from 2018/2019 and Ventura cant go up to the next version, despite it being a great machine and fast, and my 2008 imac still runs brilliantly fast and it cant update the os either.

I have an imac 2008, imac 2018/2019 both fast but they are stuck on the versions of OS/X

I have never used CLZ Movies Web, I still predominantly use CLZ for PC (which really is my main CLZ platform and the iphone App.
Not really a web user for CLZ, but if I paid for Mac version, and can move the mac to the Web at no cost for that machine, I might be interested.

Chris

Not really, as it says it dropped below the level where it was financially feasible.

But I think you got the gist anyway

In any case, for moving to Web, I see you’re now paying monthly for the desktop PC software. You could transfer that subscription to Web and pay the same. But it would disable your Windows license (as it is a trade in). If you’re interested in that, you might wanna check this page:

If you switch to CLZ Movies Web with our Trade-In offer, we will trade-in your remaining Movie Collector subscription days and will transfer them to the CLZ Movies Web edition, plus we will add 4 extra months for free.

Full details about the advantages of CLZ Movies Web, and our Trade-In Offer can be found here: Trade-In Offer for Movie Collector users - CLZ Movies Web - 1

Let me know if you are interested or have any questions about switching to CLZ Movies Web.

If you want to keep using PC Windows version mainly, that is okay too of course.
