Is it still possible to reinstall v7.1.6 and get it to license?
I know it is very old, from 2009, but it should still be able to work.

Thanks. I’ll just summarise the answer I got for anyone else who wants to reinstall and old version of the software.
Despite buying a perpetual licence to use the software, I’m now told that because they have shutdown the license server, I have to purchase a subscription. The software works fine on Windows 11 but I can’t use it.
I don’t think that summary is fair.
We did not shutdown the license server.
We made all our servers more secure by moving all connections to HTTPS.
The old version v7 did not support HTTPS, only HTTP, so that is why it cannot connect to our license servers anymore.
I don’t think it is fair to expect from us that we keep our unsecured servers up and running just to support 16 year old software versions. In fact, I don’t think it is fair to expect 16 year old software to function AT ALL anymore.
So yes, to get your software working again, you need to purchase a subscription, so that you can install the latest version.
In fact, we have completely stopped the development of the legacy Collector desktop software quite a while ago (early 2023).
Our complete focus is on the CLZ Web web-based software and of course the CLZ mobile apps.
For use on your computer, the CLZ Web software is the way to go and we are recommending all desktop users to switch to the web-based software ASAP.
Since the new CLZ.com website, the legacy Collector desktop software has been removed from the site and is not available for new users anymore.
So my best recommendation would be to subscribe to our CLZ Music Web software.
So there is no need for me to continue to subscribe to the desktop software? I will be able to perpetually use the latest version of Movie/Music as is and manually add data to them. I prefer to keep all my databases and related data/links solely on my PC – I do not use [and 99% sure I will never use] the cloud for anything.
The desktop software is subscription software, which means you always need a subscription to use the software and its online service, like CLZ Cloud and CLZ Core.
UNLESS you are grandfathered in to our old model, in that case, Cloud and Core will keep working even if your subscription expires.

That is your decision. Gonna be hard though. Desktop software is a dying breed.
It is my understanding the stand-alone desktop software will continue working even after expiration of any renewal and the only drawback is it will no longer have access to online assets/connection. I do appreciate the excellent desktop software you have developed over the years and will continue to use it without further subscription as I already manually enter all the data anyway to keep consistency within my databases. As far as desktop software dying, that is what has been said about DVD/Blu-rays and they are now making a comeback as people are dissatisfied with the corrupt tactics of online streaming services and still prefer to own media that does not disappear or has limited use. I even saw a news report only yesterday that indicated landlines are making a comeback as well.
Correct.
But since YOU are grandfathered in, you will even keep access to the online services.
Thank you Alwin for letting me know I am grandfathered in. I was not aware of that. I do appreciate you and the team working so diligently over the years to provide us with the best cataloging software and, in my opinion, it has been indispensable. And I do use it on a daily basis. I will attempt to keep a subscription even though it is not needed to help support your continued efforts. Thank you.
