New in CLZ Movies Web: Better screens for reporting “unrecognized barcodes”

Today’s update is all about improvements to the screens for dealing with “unrecognized barcodes”. The main thing being the new option to report unrecognized barcodes for movie box sets (and which movies are in them!).

Better screens for reporting “unrecognized barcodes”

The Unrecognized Barcode screen is the screen that you get when try to add a movie by scanning a barcode, but… the barcode is not recognized by our Core online movie database.

This screen lets you:

  1. Select your movie by title (assuming the movie itself IS listed in Core)
  2. Select the Format of your edition (4K, Blu-ray, DVD, HD-DVD, LD, etc….)
  3. Then… add the movie to your app anyway, with that barcode and format filled in
  4. And… very important… the screen automatically adds the missing barcode to our Core at the same time!

This screen is super-useful for you (for easily adding the movie anyway) AND essential for us (for improving the barcode recognition of our Core).

So we did a complete re-design from scratch of the “Unrecognized Barcode” screens, to make it super-easy to deal with unrecognized barcodes for both single movies and box sets containing multiple movies.

Dealing with Unrecognized Barcodes for single movies

When you scan an unrecognized barcode for a normal, single movie:

  1. In the first popup, choose “Single Movie”
  2. Then find the movie by title and select it
  3. Pick a cover from the image search
  4. Finally, indicate the Format of the edition you have (4K, Blu-ray, etc…)

Please take great care to select the correct movie and format. This is important for you, to create a correct entry in your app, but also for us at CLZ, because what you select will be added to Core automatically and instantly!

Dealing with Unrecognized Barcode for multi-movie box sets

When you scan an unrecognized barcode for a box set that contains multiple movies:

  1. In the first popup, choose “Box Set”
  2. Enter the name of the box in the Box Set Title box
  3. Then, one by one, add the movies that are in the box, by using the title search
  4. Click “Next” and pick a cover from the image search
  5. Finally, indicate the Format of the edition you have (4K, Blu-ray, etc…)

Here too, please take your time to enter the correct information and add the correct set of movies. The information you provide here is not only added to your app, but also to the Core online movie database!

Thank you for your help improving the Core barcode recognition!

Had my first 2 experiences with this today. Works great. In my case the right cover was not present in the results. The right one is nowhere to be found on the internet. So I have chosen the last option.

Idea: Upload the right cover directly from this point to Core.

Nice job.

That is what we do.

I mean by uploading the right cover from my filesystem if it is missing in the suggestions.

There is no way to upload your own image in the Unrecognized Barcode process.

If you upload an image to your movie entry through the Edit screen later, then you can use Submit to Core to submit the image.

I took a different route.

I think when you edit the movie and add your own cover it will be marked as Custom cover right? I personally prefer to not have Custom covers where possible. So I submitted to Core and in the Submit to Core page I selected the correct cover. That way I am sure it won’t be marked as Custom (missing this flag in Web).

Only small advantage I have if I could upload it directly is that you can skip some steps. But if it doesn’t fit into the workflow this is not a problem at all.

Why not? Custom Covers are really useful.

That way I am sure it won’t be marked as Custom (missing this flag in Web).

That flag is not necessary in Web. If there is a user cover it is custom, if not then not.

I use custom cover where there is no barcode available. For example in Box sets where the individual titles have no barcodes but do have standard blu-ray/dvd boxes/covers. Besides this I want to put as less effort into covers, so if I automatically get better covers from core then I am happy. I put my effort in other details.

You made me try something else with the covers in Web, and as a result I found some more strange behavior which is unclear for me. I will share it in the other topic about the custom covers findings.
