One click upgrade - feature request

It would be very helpful if there was an option in the action menu to upgrade your movie say from DVD to the Blu Ray or 4K edition. This would be quicker than using the add movie dialogue and then going back into the app and deleting the previous version.

I’m hesitant to agree. By definition your Blu-ray in your collection probably has a different barcode and different cover. I’m assuming you would want to select the right version and right cover (as we have many 4K editions for your movie most likely. This means you’d still have to open a search box and find your version.

I’m also assuming most users probably won’t throw away their Blu-ray version?

And “just changing the format to 4K” would also not give you the right end result.

I was thinking that when you clicked the “upgrade” button it would present you with the pop up that you get when you type in the movie’s name in the add movie box - the one that lists pictures of all of the different editions and then you could choose the edition you just bought. After you selected it you would be given the option to “keep” or “discard” the edition you already have.

Say we won’t introduce a “keep” or “discard” button because it just feels too much, and we do not think people are removing their other version, they might have multiple bluray versions of a single movie even.

But right now, adding a 4K version for a bluray you already have:

  • you open the add screen
  • scan the barcode, or type 4 letters of the title.
  • you click the result, pick the edition and go. (or just add it in one go by scanning barcode).

In your suggestion it would be:

  • you are in your main collection
  • you click in the search box top right
  • you type 4 letters of the title
  • you click the result
  • you would have to click a menu item somewhere and then click “find other edition of this movie”
  • the add screen opens and the search on title has been done already, showing you the results.
  • you pick the edition and go

It just feels like a lot of extra stuff and I don’t see the benefit of having this in the menu for a movie entry, rather than just clicking add, scan a barcode, and add.
