My pc recently crashed so I had to buy a new one.
After transferring my data and installing Music Collector, my collection is intact EXCEPT that the covers are not shown.
I can see that the reason is that the id of the images have changed, because the images are still available.
For instance the program is looking for BadCompanyStraightShooter10138_f.jpg but the image in the folder is BadCompanyStraightShooter892V8I9_f.jpg.
I really hope there is a way to solve this - I really don’t want to refind the cover images for more than one thousand albums.
Hi @pot1906dk
So in .muc database file, the ID has not changed, and when you moved to your new computer, the ID also didn’t change. It is highly likely that you are either opening a different version of your .muc file, or you transfered a different version of your images folder to the new computer.
Our program, the move, etc., can not change filenames or IDs.
I recommend, if you are able to, check out the old crashed PC for an image “BadCompanyStraightShooter10138_f.jpg” named exactly like that. Then see if you can do the transfer again.
OR to try and open a different version of your .muc file and see if THAT version does actually look for BadCompanyStraightShooter892V8I9_f.jpg (you know the actual file you now have).
Search the old computer for *.muc, see if there are more versions of your .muc file available.. that might be the best course.
It is not possible to link images with different IDs, so the only way is to find the right .muc, or the right files.
Well, my old pc is totally gone and cannot be startet, but I am using Backblaze to take continuous backup and I have downloaded everything from the backup.
I have tried to open various backups of the .muc file, but none of them show any images.
I’m fairly sure that I have copied the right folders etc, so I don’t get it.
I have tried to open various backups of the .muc file, but none of them show any images.
None of them will, because the path (like your username) is likely different
So you said you have a file on your computer, right now:
- BadCompanyStraightShooter892V8I9_f.jpg
What you need to do is open those .muc files and then see if there’s any one of them that also has that
" BadCompanyStraightShooter892V8I9_f.jpg"
in the filepath.
And then you can use Tools > Maintenance > Update File Links (AUTOMATIC) and go from there.
But you first have to find a .muc file that is linking to a file with that “BadCompanyStraightShooter892V8I9_f” name. Because Update File Links can ONLY work if the actual exact 100 percent same filename is in the .muc file image path versus the actual file you have.
An alternative is to use Update from Core to just download new images from our Core online database - but I don’t know if you’ve done the effort to like scan all your covers yourself ![]()
I’ll see if I can find a .muc file that suits - otherwise I’ll try the option to update form core.
