The scanner does not work properly! Now and that it freezes. Anyone a suggesties what to do ( I already renewed the scanner-app). Very frustrating!
Hi @Heidi we had some troubles with the CLZ Scanner server today.
Can you restart your phone completely, and try again to see if it works now?
In was not only today, but regularly last weeks.
And sometimes typing the isbn in the scanner still workedđ
OH, well we had actual server problems today.

- tell me which exact device you have, type number, and also OS version of the device?
When you say ârenewed the scanner-appâ - what do you mean?
Delete the app and download in again - but this didnât really help

I do see that your queue does change from time to time, so it is able to scan, and it randomly âfreezesâ?
When you say âfreezeâ are you still able to tap buttons, and is the camera image just âstuckâ?
Can you see if it has anything to do perhaps with moving closer/further away, or with turning the phone sideways and right up again?
Lastly, I would love to see a video of this happening, it might give me a hint on where to look for this bug/freeze. Would you want to do that for me? Hereâs how you can make a screen recording on your iOS device:
- Go to Settings > Control Center, then tap + next to Screen Recording.
- Open Control Center (swipe down), tap the âRecordâ button, then wait for the three-second countdown.
- To stop recording, tap the red status bar at the top of the screen, then tap âStopâ.

Yes, it freezes. After some time it is working again, it is unclear why.
Most of the times it is possible to use the ISBN tool; sometimes I try to change for instance to âmoviesâ and than go back to Books, now and than this works.
Normally, the scanner takes the info directly, whatever distance I use. And in other occasions it does not freeze, but doesnât scan either, and than I move the scanner closer, further away etc. But that doesnât work. And then I wait again, and try later onâŚ..
A video, I donât know if I can manage that, and is probably only useful in the last case, when it is not froozen, but does not react on omving closer, further away âŚ.
And this has happened several times the last hour!
The last thing youâre mentioning seems to me like youâre typing in an ISBN-10. And that always convers to ISBN-13:
Some more information on that:
CLZ Books automatically converts the ISBN-10 to an ISBN-13 by putting 3 numbers in front of it. The check digit (last number) which is a sum of formula of all numbers in front of it, changes, because 3 numbers are added.
However, the ISBN-13 number is still unique and means the same as the ISBN-10 number. There is no way to change that back to ISBN-10 with CLZ Books, simply because itâs not necessary.
The last number of an ISBN-10 is a âcheck digitâ. It is a number that is generated by a formula of all 9 numbers in front of it.
- The last number of an ISBN-13 is also a âcheck digitâ. Because the formula (and length of the ISBN) is slightly different, the last number will change from the ISBN-10 number.
If you would change the last number of the ISBN-13 back to the last number of the ISBN-10, the ISBN check digit of the ISBN-13 is wrong.
I would advise to leave the newly generated ISBN-13 in your database. Or at least do not change the last digit (as the ISBN will not be right anymore then).
