Pseudonym question

Continuing the various discussions on switching from the desktop version to the web version.

Is there any plan to add functionaiity to link pseudonyms to the ‘main’ author in the web client? This is my last real hang-up; everything else I can work around.

Right now I have to say it is not on the roadmap, and while it was requested a LOT on Desktop when we introduced it many moons ago, when Web got booming, we never seen the request too much for new users there (mostly from desktop users who wanted it).

In any case, that means not a definite no, but right now it’s not really something we’re considering. It’s on the ideas list though.

Ok. I’ll need to have a think about whether there’s a sensible workaround; it’s really nice to be able to find all the books for an author in one place (particularly in the SF Magazines, where some authors have a number of pseudomys over the years!)
For a couple of specific cases with shared pseudonyms I already have the ‘real’ author(s) and the pseudonym for the particular item all marked listed as Authors. It’s not elegant, but might work in the general case.
Or there may be something with Custom fields I could do.

Thanks anyway!

Custom Fields (Multi-Value Pick List field type in particular) does have a control type: persons. It doesn’t come with an extra field, but, it might help.

Although your solution of adding the authors as

  • real author name
  • pseudonym author name

and just have multiple authors for the book, might be the go-to work-around here!
